According to 'A senior Technology Manager (working on the DSAT project) from one major ITV company' from MHP-Chat that ITV1 will NOT be broadcasting free to air all regions when it starts
transmissions in November. The service will not launch until a conditional access deal has been agreed with Sky

Knew it was too good to be true.

Not what I hear Asa - I was told only very recently that ITV regions WILL be free to air on Sky Digital - because using encryption is too expensive. ITV apparantly are only paying to appear on the EPG, and that's enough as far as they are concerned! The debate rumbles on.... I wouldn't get too disappointed just yet!

Hopefully Sky will stick to there current stance and refuse any deal with them, short of adding ITV channels to the EPG. Then we will have to wait until ITV's viewing figures go down even further, and then they will HAVE to put all their channels on DSat WITHOUT any conditonal access.
N.B. While on the subject of ITV regions on DSat, can anyone explain what 'narrow beaming' is? I heard it is an alternative to using post codes to condtionalise regional channels.

Up until 10 minutes ago, I would have said the same! And with only 17 days until these tests were meant to appear.
But as has been rumoured since, maybe it's to put pressure on Sky to lower the price for the CA system and/or ITV couldn't secure enough programmes that could appear free-to-air (Champions' League etc.. etc..)?
Saying that, 10.832 H, 22000, 5/6 transponder has been actived. Umm....
When BBC1 starts transmitting regional programmes on DSAT (and who knows when that's going to be) does anyone know whether they're going to do a similar thing to ITV and broadcast only the main regions, or will they be transmitting all the sub-opts as well?
I ask given all the recent developments with Look East and Hull.
Obviously BBC1 is likely to be conditional access for the forseeable future, but I assume that the transponder space is pretty expensive.
Will someone get a video clip of the looped film? I dont have (or plan to have ) SKY and can already get ITV1 in its digital glory so I would like to see this film!

Are you sure this source is genuine? As far as my contact within ITV was concerned last week it was going ahead as planned....
