I quite like that ident. Something like that would be good on ITV1. Never been a fan of idents with people in them, which is why I disliked the celeb ones and like the ones after the celeb era.

Must admit I do tend to like this one and any other landscape/wildlife prsentation. The People idents do get out of date VERY quickly, hence reason as to why they need to be constantly updated.
My favourite idents are the old CGI ones, i.e. Central cake (which could easily come back) or how how CGIing the old ATV ident (minus the letters) - that would make a great ident for ITV

Towards the end of the celebrity style idents I remember the Carlton owned regions (Central, HTV Wales, Westcountry and West) introduced simular idents to that with landmarks from the region. Didnt last long though and were only used before regional programmes but they were much better.

If an ITV ident was going to use backgrounds like this, I think it'd be better if the ITV1 logo was in the middle.
Something like this for instance . . .

They were a nice idea, but looked horribly, horribly cheap.

What has that got to do with ITV1? A lot of people think the answer is to slap the ITV1 logo on top of a recorded view. Very original.

Landscape idents only really work with regional stations IMO, although the above ideas could work as a one-off before GMTV.
As for "what has that to do with ITV1", I think that's what's wrong with these spotty-faced graphic designers these days who run these agencies. The obsession with every little bit of branding needing a message has lead to a multitude of bland brand images that might have some cliched, pretentious "meaning" but rarely succeed because the designers have concentrated far too much on what a piece of graphic art means and far too little on it making an impact with consumers. Problem is, the company managers are all so far up their own backsides that they go along with the charade.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
It is annoying hearing the endless stream of bollokcs that comes from design agencies these days. It's like they've lost focus of the actual purpose of an ident - to ident ify the station. In many cases, ITV1 being a prime example, the content of the ident seems to act as a distraction rather than an enhancement to the brand itself.
There also seems to be no thought given as to what the average viewer might make of them. Outside this forum, I wonder what percentage of the viewing public have actually realised that each of the ITV1 idents is designed to portray a particular emotion, rather than just being a random collection of 'people doing stuff'. A very low percentage I'd wager.
And not wanting to single out ITV, the BBC are just as guilty of this wan ky design-speak. Although I like the new idents, how many viewers will switch on on Saturday and think, "Oh look, they've got a circle design - that makes me think of togetherness and inclusiveness. I feel so much more part of everything now"?
Hopefully one day, someone at a design agency will have a "The emperor's got no clothes!" moment, and everyone will wake up and realise they've all been talking a load of pretentious toss for years.

Agree. Who cares what it means, as long as it looks good?
