Christmas has invaded the world, it always does by now. All adverts are Christmassy, shops are Christmassy, why can't TV pres be?
Because there is no sign of anything Christmassy in the ITV1 schedule for at least another week and we'll be bored of the ident by then, never mind Christmas itself. In terms of ITV1 itself launching next weekend when they have a few specials around The X Factor final would have made sense for them, even if it's still a couple of weeks too early. I think the sensible date for any channel to go into 24/7 Christmas mode this year would be the Friday before Christmas.
November? You do know what today's date is, right?
Obviously I don't. I meant Decemer. It is the first of the month, allow me some confusion
Looking at the various idents, they are nice.
I don't want to get Scrooge like on them being on air too early, obviously the Christmas season is special rather than at the moment when everyone is still at work/school/uni. That is all, it's my personal opinion as it would feel more prominent over the holiday itself, not a few weeks before. That & my old age.
Whether we like or not the Christmas season is with us, shops playing Christmas songs for weeks, every town with festive lights switched on, Christmas ads on every ad break, Joe Public putting up house decorations, people busy shopping for gifts, children rehearsing the school nativity etc etc. ITV is being reflective of the season and what is happening in their audiences lives. Christmas is here.
The bad? Way too early, to think we used to get annoyed by seeing them appear a couple of weeks into December. And that news ident is a bit lazy on loop.
The good? The concept is lovely, the graphics look great from what I've seen online and I would have bet money on them reusing last years or at a push, the 2010 ident so am very impressed that a few quid from the budget has gone into Christmas! It feels like there has been a real step up for ITV pres recently.
Just checked and ITV2 appear to still be using normal idents.
It appears from a trailer just aired that Keith Lemon will be starting Christmas on ITV2 in Tuesday with 'Lemon Tonight' from 18:55.
Presumably they'll save Christmas presentation until then.
Also was Catherine Jenkin's programme (on tomorrow night) originally planned to air closer to Christmas, or was it just filmed with a Christmas Tree on set?
The music seems a bit quiet on these idents, hopefully it's just tonight's announcer who fades the sound down too much rather than them meant to be like that.
I notice Crabbies are back again this year, sponsoring "Christmas on ITV1" starting with Golden Rules of TV tonight. No doubt sponsoring every programme on prime time ITV1 which doesn't already have a sponsor.
Having said that, it'll be Thursday or Friday before another programme that isn't sponsored airs on ITV1 in prime time.
You're right again. I'm not having a good day today.
You were equally right in your initial post. The common style grammatically acceptable now is not to include an s after an s apostrophe.
No it's not - that only applies to plural words, such as "the princesses' parcels". It is far more common for people who don't understand apostrophe use completely to get the "apostrophe-s" after names ending in s correct.
I'm not convinced. With a name like Chris, I think it is now deemed acceptable to say "Chris' post". However, this is not a grammar forum so let's leave it at that!
Idents quite nice indeed, but as also said way to early. Posts about 'justifying the cost' are irrelevant considering ITV is commercially funded, and just because shops etc are going Christmas mad does not mean television presentation must copy. Come Christmas Day, these idents will be nothing special because you will have seen them hundreds of times in the run-up.
