I really enjoyed that first episode of Steel River Blues or "Borough's Burning". Please don't accuse a Teessider of being from Sunderland if you like your teeth intact!

Some witty one-liners and a reference to London's Burning in the script (so it seems that people in TV drama's DO watch other TV dramas!). Nice to see Libby Davison back on our screens.

Top quote:
"Mam, I'm 23 years old"
"Then go and buy yourself a house". Laughing

I don't know if you've worked it out, but it was filmed in the old Bramley fire station in Leeds (beside the Stanningley by-pass) ond only limited exteriors were filmed by the Tees. Indeed, the petrochemical fire looked more like Holbeck.

Enjoyed it though (last 30 minutes - we were out) and the whole ITV1 package seems excellent this Autumn - shades of 1989. However 'Bognor' needs to re-tailored slightly with decent celebs and less swearing. I'm quite happy for my little 'un to watch HIGNFY but not this.

So Steel River Blues did OK in the ratings with 6.5 million, but will it maintain its audience this week. Is 6.5 million enough for ITV for this type of slot?

Yes, it'll be interesting to see how all the episode twos stand up this week.

I was pleased with the Caroline Quentin detective thing tonight. I'll be back next week for more of that one as well.

One billion times better than her in Von-Crapped on Saturday; as Doc Martin APPEARS to be another billion times better than the Martin Clunes Crapped thing NEXT Saturday.

I DO wish ITV wouldn't start new series with particular stars in the same, or adjacent, weeks to them appearing in one-offs of a completely different quality.
