I looked into TV-ARK and found out that when Celebrity idents first aired, regional logos were moved exclusively to endboards. Is that true?

Regional logos (Granada 'G', Yorkshire Chevron, Meridian sun-moon thing etc) remained on the endcaps, which weren't initially altered. Some were still in regional news titles, weather graphics etc. It must be appreciated that Carlton & Granada had still not merged at this point. On the day of the merger, the regional news graphics were changed, along with endcaps to generic designs.

To answer your question: I hated them all. I think the fact the arrival of these idents resulted in regional station identities disappearing, after almost half a century prejudiced my opinion of them but even looking back, I find them brash and in your face and I never liked the colour scheme. That said, the quality of the continuity was a big improvement on the Leeds-based continuity Granada viewers had been previously subjected to for the previous 4 years or so.

It was a good idea executed poorly. The management of the time mustn't have been too keen on them, as they were replaced after only two years (updated in between), relatively short compared to today.

I still think the introduction promo set to "That's Entertainment" was great though. Look that up on TV Ark if you have the time. http://www2.tv-ark.org.uk/itv1/2002.html

The TV Room states that one of the Keira Knightly idents were first aired at 6pm on 28 October 2002.

That would've been a regional junction though, so different throughout the country. That was the first junction I saw actually. It was a long time ago now but I think we got Cilla on Granada.

I remember seeing the Carlton logo while hearing a Carlton announcer in the Midlands on 27th October 2002 (the night before the Celebrity idents began) on TV saying "Well, this is it. After more than 15 years with you here in the Central region, this is my very last announcement. So, from me, Kevan Brighting, all this remains for me is to say goodnight and goodbye."

Another regional announcement, this time from Granada, from 27 October 2002 before the Celebrity idents started:
"Although many thanks for your company, the time has now come for me to say farewell. So, from Neil Didsbury, goodbye."

My favourite one was the one without celebrities in it.

I also liked idents featuring just the ITV1 logo on a blue aurora-like background.

Those were the days of HTV News produced by Carlton for ITV1 Wales.

Such a messy time but probably needed to get to where we are today.
