ITV1 Best Idents

Every last one of them is dull. They don't compare with the other channels at the same point in time, and they don't compare with many of the prior regional attempts either.

If I were pushed to pick one, I'd say the 2004 series, but only in their original form, which ITV ditched within a few weeks. The concept had reasonable promise. DW have this idea implemented well, with components being produced such that they run into each other seamlessly.

ITV has always been clunky, and it remains so. At least in the regional days the clunkiness had charm, now it's just bland.

Living in the Central region I never saw any of the 1998 corporate set, so can't really comment. I'm voting for 2002, despite the fact I absolutely loathed them at the time but I think that's more to do with the output of the channel than anything.

The reason being that on reflection, everything since has been unimaginative and lacking in personality. But it's mainly because that set gave birth to some brilliant spoofs made by Harry Hill e.g Old man in a dress holding cards saying "Hello, I'm Fern Britton"

I voted for 2004 - they are by far the best idents we have since ITV went national in 2002.

I did like both the GMG and Carlton versions of then 1998-2002 hearts idents too.

Absolutely hated the celeb idents from 2002-2004.

As for the current idents, well IMO they are really dull and boring.

I did like the hearts set, though perhaps the ending was a bit weak - prefered the alternative unused set that used to be on the Continuity Booth.


I've gone for the celebs idents though - though they are simple and unimaginative, but they sum up ITV perfectly!

Mainly though it's the use of the 4 square motif that wins it for them - an actual logo rather than just a bit of text stuck on a coloured background stuck on an ident!

The ITV1 Wales logo that was on all the idents looked awful during the celebs era though IMO. The plain ITV1 logo looked far better.

Mind you the current attempts at an ITV1 Wales "logo" are even worse with the word Wales just put under the ITV1 logo.

In my opinion the 2004 ident's set were the best, a shame they didn't make anymore!

True. During the celebs era they'd have been better off just doing it how the regions did it with the blue frame around the logo - that looked a bit neater IMO.

I loved the hearts idents .When Border Pres moved to the NTC at Leeds it was funny how a Tyne Tees or Granada ident would pop up here in Border land sometimes .The celeb idents for me just didn't do it i guess it was because it was the end of an era with the regional branding and continuity going .I realy miss Maggie Mash and Bob Preedy from the Leeds centre.ITV 1 looks bland and sounds bland it is just awful these days.
