ITV1 Aspect Ratio

Is it just here, or is "The way we were" in 4:3 stretched on ITV1? I've seen it switch from 14:9 to 4:3 a few times, and they seem to have just given up and left it in 4:3.

What gives?

It's a 16:9 FHA picture squashed into a 4:3 frame.
