After two days of viewing, I must say that I am impressed overall with the whole package.
ITV1 - I'd have liked to have seen a bit more, though I do like the fact that it isn't strictly one scene, or one shot. Hopefully they could easily add to the package when they feel as though they need new idents.
The one think, like many that does bother me is a lack of serious ident. To me, Channel 4 can get away with pylons creating the 4, five can get away with a plane in the sky, I don't think that ITV1 can have random people milling around, though it is strange to see an ident like this not only on ITV1, but also introducing the news.
As for the rest of the package, I can't say that I'm a keen fan of Black & Yellow together, I'd have preferred it if they had used a background made of many golds, oranges and yellows, a bit like ITV3's.
Out of all of them ITV1 has been left behind I feel.
ITV2 has a superb package, very e4 esque, but with added layers of people and graphics looks great, and as has been said before appeals to the channels ideal audience.
The only problem that I had was that the first programme following this first ident was Coronation Street, perhaps not so much the ideal audience.
The idents, promotions and endcaps all tie in nicely to the look, as has been said the website doesn't.
As for the font, surely a darker green would suit better than white onto the lime green.
ITV3 looks stunning, very simplistic, arty, yet clever, again appeals nicely to their ideal audience, and look amazing.
I love the surrounding graphics on trailers, bumpers and endboards, very nice indeed.
ITV News looks amazing. It's a shame that the news channel isn't still around. It's amazing what a slight change of colour, graphics and adding the atrium as a background can do for a programme. It real does look much more superior to its previous look.
I love how much depth it has given the studio, it looks stunning. My only problem is not so much the widescreen issue, it would be nice to have it in proper widescreen, but the fact that ITV zoom into the feed for Sky viewers, it gets on my nerves. If it's 4:3, leave it that way, or spend a bit of money making it widescreen.
It is nice that all ITV channels now look as part of one network, I know that they sort of did until ITV4 came around, but now they are properly united, and I think it will benefit greatly.
My only gribes are that they don't have any nighttime idents (that I've seen) for ITV1, will it always be that sunny, and I thought light clouds through the night was bad! Also the fact that all websites aren't up to date and that they haven't given them all a makeover into an ITV4 styley, and finally the fact that they seem to have got rid of the ITVi sub brand, it needs some sort of a name, maybe these will be issues that they will rectify soon.
As for the across all channel look, I do like the new next bars across the top of the screen, all except the ITV1 black and yellow one, though the generic blue one is strange, but nice how it stays blue yet the logos change.
Btw... have they promoted ITV4 via this method since the new bar came into play, or haven't they used it a lot?
As for the credits, well that it a part of the package that I really do hate. The new font is better than the old one, but that background is totally boring.
What I don't understand is why each programme can't just use their own background, would it be that wrong, it would suit the programme more, and could still be used in the same way. I think that the blue tacky looking lines should be the first part of the rebrand to go.
Even though it is strange with the text not cut out and moved, it would be too much trouble to have many sets of end titles to be alligned perfectly, as ITV1& 3 seem to be using their ECP from the left, with ITV2 & 4 from the right.
EDIT: Just noticed that someone forgot to tell the nightscreen team of the rebranding of ITV, it looks totally out of place on the channel now.
Though I'm sure they will change it soon, even if it's just to round off the rectangles and squares in the background and make all of the squares yellow.
