Once again, many thanks to UTV for providing a sparkling clean feed overnight tonight to allow us to appreciate the full range of itv1's new idents.

Opinion wise; for all it matters, the itv1 idents are shockingly bland. I nearly fell asleep watching the first by the meaninglessness. What do they actually visualise to the viewer? The hearts era at least tapped in to a consistant theme of something found within the viewing publicsince the death of Diana. These are meaningless. 2's & 3's are spot on in matching audience to programmes. Maybe 1 is just too mainstream to be indivdual.
Errors in the entire package are rife throughout, including the after-thought of the position of the regions on the main id. Bring back the hearts!

Well said!
My opinion on each of the 3 channels:
ITV1: Worst of the lot. Unlike ITV2 and 3, it lacks a strong defining characteristic. Generally bland and really nowhere near striking enough to stand out. The best thing about the channel's presentation is definitely the Break Bumper; and it would probably make a nice ident for serious programming!
ITV2: Has the most character; extremely fitting 'snazzy' look with a vibrant lively feel; very well done.
ITV3: Very well thought out; has a serious feel compared to the 2 other channels that are generally more upbeat. Camera shots are put to very good use; a number of the idents are fairly striking in this way.
In conclusion, ITV2 and 3 aren't bad...but aside from the break bumper, I'd say ITV1 is now worse than it was before! ...The look might grow on me though, I'll have to wait and see.

I'm not a fan of live-action idents at all, so I was surprised that I actually quite like ITV1's. From the publicity I thought they would be one scene per ident, and it didn't look good and some of the links with the emotion seemed quite hard to guess. But having 4 or 5 works really well, and builds up the idea of the feeling it represents. Saying that, I've only seen a couple so far - surprise and pride - but it can be quite fun working out what each ident represents. If used properly, they can add something by setting the mood for the following programme. They're also so much better in production terms than the BBC ONE dancers, a lot more care seems to be taken over them. Best idents ITV has had for years.
My only problem with ITV1 is the ECP - both the blue stripes and the black look awful.
From the publicity it was obvious that the ITV3 look was going to be good, and that's the case. ITV2 is also good, very "now" and I wonder how long before it dates, I can't see that look lasting more than 18 months. It reminds me of what our designers have come up with for Spring/Summer 06 where I work.

don't we think slices of life idents have already been done to death by just about everyone else ?...( BBC, Four, Five ....)
Agree with the general consensus here - 2., 3, 4 all alot better than 1 !

I have to agree Roy. This portrayal of 'television for the people' has been done to death. Indeed Carlton London tried this when they launched, and after many focus group meetings, decided it wasn't working for them. Also, one can hear slight hesitations from the announcers as to when they think they should start speaking!
It certainly doesn't give the channel any definate identity. "Pigs splashing about in mud" what are they trying to say to us??
It appears that the team of non-broadcast bods who are taking over at the helm of ITV have yet decided upon another great failure.!
