The Emmerdale set is only on a ten year lease - plane crash anybody?

The Entire villiage could get cateracts.

Not sure who will run them - but I suspect it will be a 3rd party rather than a joint BBC/ITV-owned and operated operation - as 3SixtyMedia is. I'd expect it to be a facilities operation - not a broadcaster owned set-up.

AIUI the studio buildings are being built at the moment - but I don't know if who if anyone planning to lease/fit-out/run them yet. All a bit murky...

Yes, the building is part of MediaCity Salford, according to http://www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk/rest%20of%20britain.htm#mediacity the BBC will just rent the studios in the development as they need them, in fact they haven't even had consultation on their design. Who they'll rent them from isn't clear, no idea what the status of their new offices is either, I suspect they'll take out a long term lease on them like The Mailbox

As for moving everything, I doubt they'll keep a northern transmission centre, I'm sure the new centre in Chiswick would have been future-proofed and built with a view to adding the rest of the regional streams

Presumably you'd still need a second site for resilience? (Or is that the South Bank?)

Is the Chiswick operation in the IMG building or a new build?

No idea about the building itself but the facility itself is all Thomson/Technicolor and AIUI seperate from the other companies at that site

If they moved everything to Chiswick they would still need an alternative site for resilience, but the other national networks (BBC, C4 and Five) seem to cope with 1 main broadcasting centre backed up with a disaster recovery site they can use if necessary. There's no reason why ITV shouldn't be the same, it would be cheaper to have a company like Ascent, Red Bee or even Sky provide reserve facilities when needed rather than have a seperate TX area running 24/7/365 up north

ITV need to cut costs and save money. How will they cut costs by closing down a purpose built studio complex only to build a new purpose built studio complex for drama, 5 minutes walk away?

Emmerdale isn't housed in a purpose-built complex, it's in an old car garage, and they pay an extortionate rent on it, and what's more the owners of the property want to change it into student accomodation, so ITV haven't really got a choice.

Nothing too different than what's been mooted in the last couple of weeks, except it appears that Calendar and Transmission will be staying on Kirkstall Road.

Probably because it hasn't actually been announced yet, I'm sure they will cover it tomorrow

Aside from the fact that this news was rather predictable, one has to question the logic of the signage company who installed black lettering on a dark brick background Shocked

It's very difficult so see, even in daylight. However, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, so I'm sure it was just a mistake! Confused
