would they not remove them to stop them going off during the recording of the show?

No - normally the Floor Manager or wam up person would include a "please switch your mobiles off" request into their audience welcome routine.

I think the YTV audience reception was pretty much to keep the audience out of the way from everyday business. The old reception was pretty poor space-wise and when that was full of pensioners it was a nightmare.
The new reception is a good holding space and also links directly to the canteen, which has a cordoned off section for audience folk.

As the main building holds the Northern Transmission Centre, as well as the archives, I think we can read into it that either these will be moved, or that the studios are indeed being mothballed.

Austin Mitchell has just been on Calendar saying he is going to work with Yorkshire Forward to get some production back in to the centre. Anybody got a spare few quid, we'll buy the place!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am eager to learn more about this building.

Is the Northern Transmission Centre located on the first floor where the Master Control Room used to be, which is what I thought might be the logical place, or is it elsewhere in the building? I read on another post that the old Studio 2 is being used for the NTC. Can anyone confirm?

I hope no-one minds me resurrecting this enquiry before it gets pushed back too far! I'd really welcome any information.

I realise it's probably an innocent enquiry but I really don't think anyone who knows is likely to let on, given how crucial that bit of the building is to transmission! It wasn't that long ago we weren't allowed to refer to studio numbers, let alone the actual location of TX Wink

Yep - I think it is unlikely any responsible member of staff would post in a public forum currently operationally sensitive information.

The questioner may have purely innocent reasons for asking - but putting that kind of info in the public domain makes it much easier for others (who are not so innocent) to disrupt productions and transmission.
