According to press reports ITV are considering moving Emmerdale to the Granada studios in Manchester and closing down the Kirkstall Road studios in Leeds.
I think over the last few years ITV have been running down these studios in Leeds on purpose so they are ripe for closure.
The argument from ITV is they need to save money and cut costs.
If this is a serious argument then surely they should retain these studios and close down their London studios on the south bank and their headquarters on Grays In Road.
It must be a lot cheaper to make programmes and have staff based in Leeds rather than London.
I'm not sure what you mean by running the studios down? You are aware that Heartbeat and The Royal aren't made there regardless of whether these programmes are axed or not
I believe it was mentioned in the Sunday Express, I read somewhere that ITV was also thinking of out sourcing Coronation Street too. Probably not true!

Yes, they should close down their studios that are fully booked and keep open the smaller complex that are barely used... that makes perfect commercial sense!
According to Mondays Daily Star itv are considering moving Emmerdale to Manchester and closing down Kirkstall Road. Yesterdays Guardian said ITV were considering selling off Kirkstall Road.
Does it not make economic sense to make programmes and have staff based outside London?
The sad thing is I put nothing past ITV at the moment. If Michael Grade gets his way they'll probably make everything in a shed at the bottom of his garden.
Could be that Michal Grade crying wolf again to get product placement and any other money from this anything else which moves and he sees the £ signs.
ITV want out of Quay Street and into the Media Village at Salford. Even if they have not admitted it, the studio build is a giveaway. If it had to move, it is much more likely that Coronation Street production would go the other way. Leeds has the space for development and it is a very low cost centre & Granada's Manchester studios are on a nice bit of real estate.
Perhaps the papers are the ones who need extra revenue by printing ever more hysterical rubbish.
To be honest, I would rather see RTL buy the ITV network then five could become ITV5 and then the 2 aussie soaps could actually be the pinnacle of ITV1's daytime schedulel whilst sport could be the pinnacle of ITV 5 schedule showing Champions League and UEFA - and gain more viewers. Plus RTL will have more respect for the studios that are left and would actually make money from them - as they know how to sell better than ITV!
