Back in the good old days before that awful ITV Centre, how did there conduct what went where in the network?

I know the BIG 5 had most control over the peak slots 7.30pm - 22.30, but out with those times well it was a pigs ear.

Also did some compaines make programmes with idea of getting them on the network? or where there just picked up by the network?

Grampian made a few home types shows such as : Do it herself, Simply sweing, Pin money
TT: Did Home, made for the home: http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/464681
STV made; Moneywise and Homework http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/235597

While Surprisingly; what got picked up:

* STV: Thingummyjig was networked 78-81, Allan Stewart tapes. 1980,. Hello Good evening and welcome. 1977- 80.

I cant seem to found other EG from other compaines Confused

Probably better discussed in the existing 'Networked ITV - 1990s and Before' thread, or we'll end up duplicating discussions.

There will be some modern equivalent of the old "red phone" system so STV and UTV know what to do in the event of the news being extended, a newsflash, a live programme agreeing to over-run or some other last minute change.

I wouldn't count on there being a modern equivalent. From what I've heard UTV still have a red phone, with a cassette recorder connected to it so that they can record and play back the calls.

The phone may be the same as the originals, but it now works on a VOIP system, transmitted up the ITV network.
