What is it about ITV's websites, they just can't seem to get the names sorted properly, some names are split up by a ' - ' others aren't, some are .com, others .co.uk, it's all very confusing.

www.itv.co.uk
www.itv2.co.uk
www.itv-digital.co.uk
www.itvactive.com
www.itvselect.co.uk
www.itv-football.co.uk
www.itv-rugby.co.uk
www.itv-f1.com
www.itv-weather.co.uk
www.citv.co.uk

Edit : Maybe this should be in the other forum, feel free to move !

This'll all probably get sorted when www.itv.com 'opens' and they'll go the way of the BBC with www.bbc.co.uk/whatever

As an aside, I find it very odd that now that itv have the itv.com domain, they can't even be bothered to put up a holding page -- it just defaults to a server error document. Hardly professional, methinks!

Umm, sorry? What was that? itv professional ? Okay, bad idea... Very Happy

(Good ol' ikonboard - it fills in the links without having to type the [ u r l ] bit!)

Yeah the itv website thing is quite confusing but here in wales we have the added effects of local websites ie in wales we have:-

www.itv.co.uk (and all the other itv network websites.....)
www.htv.co.uk
www.htvwales.com
www.carlton.com

ITV NEED itv.com now as a holding page and start getting people into using that address before everyone gets too confused with the whole situation!

If you think the ITV Network are bad look at UTV:

www.utvinternet.com
www.utvinternet.ie
www.utv.co.uk
www.utv.ie
www.utvlive.com

All pointing to the same site!

Just to confuse things, all their email addresses are programme@utvplc.com !

At least your local ITV company's sites are working! Yorkshire Television's has been closed now for about 4 months!

I know what you mean about ITV though. All ITV programmes/spin offs should be like this:

http://www.itv.com/subject

Know what I mean? Like BBC Online. All Sports under the banner 'Sport', and individual popular programmes under their own names. Not in the company that makes them's website!

UTV's have to because they are also an ISP! The biggest in NI apparently. (Which is why UTV's site will never be integrated with ITV.com, it has to have all the ISP-type stuff on it that ITV shoves onto ITV Active. And ITV Active and UTV Internet are competing ISPs)

As for Yorkshire, http://www.yorkshire.tv had a new corporate site which was in development until recently, although checking it has now disappeared to be replaced by a large Cheveron logo.

Thanks for the YTV URL. I haven't seen it before.

I think its obvious that ITV use the www.what-ever.com address instead of the www.itv.co.uk/whatever address because its easier to remember for the viewer watching when they put it on screen

I think ITV should rething the idea of having a website altogether.

Have you seen it? It's rubbish? All it does have is links to programmes.

Now, if they want to be professional about this, I think they should take a leaf out of BBC Online's book. It's split conveniently into sections which you don't have to look far to get and all the sub sites, eg EastEnders are easily remembered as they just have the www.bbc.co.uk/name.

They even have a link to the regions, so ITV companies could make a website with what they do, what they broadcast, a schedule etc and have it under the heading: http://www.itv.com/itv company

This would be any easy and effective way of getting info on the companies and not interfere with companies like UTV - which are also ISP's.

What do others think?

I can't see UTV wanting to be itv.com/utv. Just like the us stations wouldn't want to be fox.com/fox5ny etc

Maybe you're right. I think it's gonna be a no win situation here!
