I might be talking rubbish, but am I right in thinking that the ITV regions weather does not appear unified like the news does. I'm certain there is different styles between national and regional, but I think there is also variations from region to region.

Does anyone know why this is? Why havn't they unified the brand, like with the news?

Weather graphics are based on (former) ownership:

Note that Channel is the only region that still showcases the pictures sent in by children!

The London and UTV regions are the notable exceptions - they use the same graphics as the National Weather. Although, UTV uses a different strapline design, but that's just a nitpick...

GMTV Weather has a similar look to the National Weather too!

I'm sorry, but Central's Weather (or is it Carltons...) is just terrible. You can sometimes read the writing, but most of the time it's just ..awful!!

Don't you think that during 1993-2001 that ITV (National) Weather was more... let's say, interesting? I am of course referring to the presentation - the famous WeatherGens! You know, those characters dressed up as rain, snow / hailstones etc. Basically the whole look seemed very nice while it lasted, as the background matched with the PowerGen colours and it seemed more able to "stand" than the current look, if you know what I mean.

Oh yes, those sponsor sequences were brilliant weren't they? It's no wonder they lasted 8 years, with only minor changes to the slogan, voiceover and on-screen logo. They were imaginative, relevant and completely timeless. Why they replaced them with the crap we've had since I'll never know.

Those sequences were indeed brilliant, yes. Surprisingly, there's no sign of any video files from that era apart from only a few:

A 1996 "Plant" sequence is available on the ITV News section of Informativos TV
A few from the last ever made ones at TV Whirl - ITV Weather section
And again, "Snow" and "Rain" at Lambie-Nairn

It seems that these are the only files you can look at - although that Informativos one has a downloading restriction - you can only download it a certain times of the day...

Actually, the "plant" one on Informativos TV is from the original set of sponsorship ads, before the weather people, which used variations of the 1989 ITV generic music by David Dundas. The fact that the site marks it as being from 1996 seems a little odd, though it does seem to be the case judging from the ITN news clip above it.

The ones on TV-Whirl were from towards the end of the weather people's life, after the sidebar was introduced - the logos were originally floating, as you can see on the Lambie-Nairn clips.

A while ago, I found the website of the company (an associate of Lambie-Nairn, I presume) that made the sequences, and there was a montage of all of the different sequences. I'll post a link here if I can find it again.

...and oh look, I found it.

The description of the clip on that page is a little inaccurate - it's actually a montage featuring most (if not all) of the Weather People.
