No G-Wizz was Granada's disasterous, money burning internet service.
Interesting that their LWT's web address at the time was g-wizz.net/lwt
Was that some free hosting company and they got a basic holding page on the cheap instead of getting lwt.co.uk?

Before it even collapsed they had to change it to generic addresses like lwt.co.uk, because it was a commercial service and they weren't allowed to promote it on screen. Similar to how adverts for ONdigital couldn't be branded as such, and were instead 'Digital TV through your aerial' or something like that.

I wonder why?

I quite like the URL being shown at the bottom right side of the screen (or near the screen if you were watching in widescreen at the time)

Apparently a factor in rebranding Central & Westcountry as Carlton was that it enabled them to plug the Carlton.com portal.

But, they've already done that before the 1999 rebrand (Mid-1999), so that argument is pretty watered down.

That doesn't mean the regulator was happy with it (nor Granada's use of G-wizz in the idents).

Oh of course. but, carlton's URL was for their website where G-Wizz was an internet service provider.

Carlton.com wasn't exactly much different. It was a commercial portal made up of other businesses in the Carlton group such as Popcorn.co.uk and Jamba.
I think they were even criticised after rebranding and at some point had to change the url to www.carlton.com/tv which pointed to something more relevant to its ITV activities. (That's from memory... I may be wrong!)
