i've seen these before, although they are "different" to what we ended up with, they are completely soulless and generic.

I did not make the work, however, I think they are brilliant (okay they are unseen. Probably first efforts)
TBH, I don't think the majority of them made it to air.

We've already seen these and we already know they were designed long before you were born.

Oh. The graphics are really brilliant for the time period that they were made (Some even years ahead of their time - I'm talking more realistic for 2010 than 1998/99). But, they are brilliant for my liking.

From what I can see, the Yorkshire TV idents did make it to air. Here are eighty different versions of the ident, if you're interested:

Yeah, This was one of the few of them and I don't think all of these could've made it air, could they?

Also on the collection of idents that did make it to air are these*:

*I don't think all of them made it to air. I know that LWT didn't use these idents, they used the christmas ident that was used since when LWT launched its' logo in August 1996.

Used from 1996-1998

Oh and the unused LWT Christmas Ident used that was made for them was this:

Also (a point made by someone else) a promo endboard was made for LWT (probably from '99), but just like that unused xmas ident from '98, also ended up being neglected.

i don't really agree the graphics were good for their time either, if you look at what pixar was doing at the time.

but even if for the sake of simplicity we agree the graphics were ahead of their time, conceptually they are bland.

they are basically a static logo stuck on an animated background... it's no different from anything which came before it. i don't doubt the designer was just working to some brief, but they are hardly cutting edge from a design point of view.

most of those screens could have any logo pasted on top and they would still work, there isn't really anything clever or quirky about them, nothing original.
