I don't know if anyone has noticed, but it seems really annoying that ITV are trying to make a damp squib in imitating the BBC.

It seems that ITV are really copying the BBC in its logo format, music style and even news format.

Personally I think that ITV are uncreative in there own personal design and makes it look very unprofessional

Firstly ITV have seemed to copy the BBC logo using the square boxes.

Secondly ITV have also seemed to copy the 'interactive logo' by squaring the shape and adding a red colour (albeit respectful as for interactivity you need to 'press the red button').

Thirdly ITV copies the BBC by trying to be fancy with its news graphics and music.

Dows anyone here agree with me and what else really annoys you... this includes other channels copying other channels.

I can see you have compiled a thought provoking, in-depth analysis there, before you have come to your conclusion. Rolling Eyes

The Logo format is similar and I agree that the split logo is freakishly simialr to the BBC's. But I don't see where you came up with the theory that the music is the same, or the news format, could you back this up please?

Well, if they are trying to copy the BBC news, they need to do alot better - ITV news is p**s poor at the moment compared to its rivals.
I do agree that the split logos do look similar, but at least the BBC dont change their idents every 12 months with an equally bad presentation set! Also, I think the only reason that ITV4 is going to be launched is so that ITV is on a par with the BBCs digital channels.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Nothing to do with advertising revenues and the success of ITV2 & 3.

Theres no need to make me sound like an idiot. Thats my opinion, which im entitled to, and im sure many people would prefer ITV to concetrate on halting the rapid decline of ITV1 (where they can make the most money) rather than launch yet another channel to spread their resources thinner.

ITV is nothing like the BBC thankfully, and I really don't think they want to be either.

Can't see any justification for this thread apart from the logo.

It's no secret I don't think the BBC is anywhere near as good as it should be. ITV certainly have far superior drama, entertainment and general programmes - and quite surprisingly ITV1 had more peak time factual programmes than BBC1 last year.

People like to run down ITV but I think Brekkieboy has illustrated a few plusses above.

Both television companies have strong and weak points - but only the negative of ITV ever seems to get mentioned on this forum! (but i dont want to go down there.......)

Why is this thread called "Is ITV trying to be BBC?" and is also a poll which has got NOTHING to do with the content?

I don't think anyone other than you did that!

ITV has realised that there is a need to create a proper digital strategy. One channel is not going to be able to bring in as much revenue as the shareholders require.

Carlton and Granada launched ITV2, before this though Granada realised that multi-channel was the future hence the creation of GSB. Plus, Men and Motors and (Talk?) were the results of this partnership with Sky.
ITV3 was born out of an extensive re-brand of Plus when ITVplc purchased Sky's stake of GSB.. now it's MaM's turn - hence ITV4.

This = NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BBC!!!

Can't say I agree with much of that clap-trap.

If ITV were to follow the BBC and make their news 16:9, I might just be a happier bunny.

This goes back some time, ITV2 was launched as a National ITV2, so each ITV Franchise could have their share, there were 3 outcomes, excluding GMTV2, those being ITV2 (Granada/Cartlon/UNM), S2 (SMG) and TV You/UTV2 (UTV), early days this channel was performing poorly. Then Granada bought up UNM and slowly Granada and Carlton bought and closed UTV2 and S2. In recent years ITV2 has become one of the best performing channels on Digital TV, in order to keep up in the market, hence it makes ITV Plc alot of money.

Keen to exploit this ITV bought up the rest of Granada Sky Broadcasting, a successful profitable venture, turned one half into ITV3, the other should be changing to ITV4 sometime this year, hence why it had been running since 1996. Believe me when I say that both Carlton and Granada are very huge empires that have many arms to them. Carlton was a different case, it bought up SelecTV, a cable channel that had access to an archive, this channel became Carlton Select. Carlton tried to get into the empire with On Digital, all of these services did fail with Carlton Cinema closing on 30th March 2003.

Thanks to the Granada Carlton merger this has been paying off more recently as the savings have been put back into programmes, this helping the creation of ITV Day with loads of new Daytime programmes being comissioned and made in order to attract an audience.

Anyway [/ITV Rant]
