Basically many Regions didn't see the point of 24 Hour Television, and most of the smaller ones couldn't afford it, due to the fact the staff would be paid more and the audiences would be minimal and it wasn't really peak time advertising.
The Big 5 were the main ones to get their heads into 24 Hour TV, Thames and Central did it on their own first, which was September 1987. Anglia and LWT weren't too far behind either, as they did their own services. TVS took LWT's Night Network for a while and then did their own Late Night Late slot which was up and running for 1988, which was also shown on Channel.
Granada went 24 Hours in February 88, launching their own service, which was later rebranded as Night Time. Yorkshire and Scottish went 24 hours at pretty much the same time. In August HTV launched Night Club and by September TSW, Tyne Tees, Border, Grampian and Ulster were all 24 hours but they all opted for Granada's Night Time.
Things changed by about mid 1990, Thames and LWT's overnight service became ITV Night Time, and by 1992 ITV NT was also being shown on Anglia, HTV and (I think) TVS. By late 1992 Tyne Tees switched from Granada to Yorkshire and they got 'Night Shift'. ITV NT ended on the 31st.
A New brand called Night Time was shown on Meridian, but no-one too sure whether London and the other regions got this version, anyway we're up to 1994 now. Granada had bought LWT so they stopped Night Time from Manchester and now operated ITV Night Time along with Carlton, so this service appeared on Granada, Carlton, LWT, Ulster, Grampian and Westcountry.
By about 1997 the UNM regions took shape so HTV, Meridian, Anglia and Westcountry went for their own thing. By 1998 Yorkshire and Tyne Tees opted for ITV Night Time, and Grampian opted to Scottish, when by 2000 they started their 'Night Time TV' branding.
But by about 2000 all Regions except Scotland just got 'ITV' overnight and thats where it pretty much ends.
i remember we used to get the dancing people on central in the late 90s ...

was this the point at which all of england and wales were taking the carlton/lwt service? very odd that they never branded the service as anything at all, not even itv!
by the way, odd that central's ted may voices the first trailer on that clip - wonder if that clip was recorded off central.
