ITV's News at Ten will return on Monday 14th January 2008.

Information on their schedules is here. (requires registration).

A brief look:

Today we've unveiled an exciting new-look ITV1 schedule for 2008, with an increased focus on peak time on weekdays and a revitalised line-up for the weekend. Key features of the new schedule include:
• The return of News At Ten
• More 60-minute dramas at 9pm on weekdays
• More comedy, drama and entertainment from Friday to Sunday
• Coronation Street and Emmerdale move from Sunday evenings
• Dancing On Ice moves to Sunday night
• More investment in acquired programming in the 10.30pm slot

I'll reverse my earlier decision to close this...

To talk specifically about the revamped lineup from 14th Jan, please use the dedicated thread http://www.tvforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26337.

All other minor ITV matters can continue in here.

Oh.

Can we not merge the threads then? I didn't even remember this one existed and the one I've got going was a general ITV thread (to me) which at the moment is focussing on the 14th January revamp.

There has been some overlap - like posting about schedules in here etc - so it makes sense to close one or merge them.

I would like to ask if anyone can remember the old ITV night times,
TVarksouth.. has given some information but I would like to know knwo out of the 15 ITV companies, what each of them did for there night time serive

TSW's overnight service was a strange hybrid of its own and that of Granada.

Thames' service was its own,

Scottish started it own,

but I'm sure many other never brothered and just link up with others?

Although I don't know for certain, I'm sure this was the start of more collaboration between the ITV regions with perhaps Granada taking the lead in providing a multi-region service that was branded as "Night Time" complete with the play-out of different adverts in the embyonic stage of the Leeds and London transmission centres.

I've a little bit here about Central's foray in to late night tv back in 1987.

Consisting mainly of Prisoner: Cell Block H, films, Donahue and Central News Headlines, it ran nightly until about 2am - to be followed by the legendary 'Central Jobfinder'.

Basically many Regions didn't see the point of 24 Hour Television, and most of the smaller ones couldn't afford it, due to the fact the staff would be paid more and the audiences would be minimal and it wasn't really peak time advertising.

The Big 5 were the main ones to get their heads into 24 Hour TV, Thames and Central did it on their own first, which was September 1987. Anglia and LWT weren't too far behind either, as they did their own services. TVS took LWT's Night Network for a while and then did their own Late Night Late slot which was up and running for 1988, which was also shown on Channel.

Granada went 24 Hours in February 88, launching their own service, which was later rebranded as Night Time. Yorkshire and Scottish went 24 hours at pretty much the same time. In August HTV launched Night Club and by September TSW, Tyne Tees, Border, Grampian and Ulster were all 24 hours but they all opted for Granada's Night Time.

Things changed by about mid 1990, Thames and LWT's overnight service became ITV Night Time, and by 1992 ITV NT was also being shown on Anglia, HTV and (I think) TVS. By late 1992 Tyne Tees switched from Granada to Yorkshire and they got 'Night Shift'. ITV NT ended on the 31st.

A New brand called Night Time was shown on Meridian, but no-one too sure whether London and the other regions got this version, anyway we're up to 1994 now. Granada had bought LWT so they stopped Night Time from Manchester and now operated ITV Night Time along with Carlton, so this service appeared on Granada, Carlton, LWT, Ulster, Grampian and Westcountry.

By about 1997 the UNM regions took shape so HTV, Meridian, Anglia and Westcountry went for their own thing. By 1998 Yorkshire and Tyne Tees opted for ITV Night Time, and Grampian opted to Scottish, when by 2000 they started their 'Night Time TV' branding.

But by about 2000 all Regions except Scotland just got 'ITV' overnight and thats where it pretty much ends.

with our 24 hour days I dare say more people than every woudl be watching the night time TV.

if ITV made the effort there could get more people watching, there could keep the Money shows for an hour 1am - 2am?
