I think they need to follow the US that one step further and close the programme with short full screen "Executive Producer" credits before moving on to the lower-third (well, lower -20%) set up for the rest of the credits.

It might only be a few seconds, but I think that space between the end of the programme and the ECP would make the promotions feel far less intrusive.

That's interesting. The only problem in the UK is that they in my knowledge have never done that, and they still air the end theme tune, and background, just incase they don't promote anything.

Having not been to the US, how do they do their end credits?

Do they only use them in prime time programming, or all day?
And do they make their own versions of the end credits (as international ones exist as we see over here)?

Have the original Alive with Colour idents been binned? I don't watch Tyne Tees regularly so I could be mistaken but I have not seen any of the original Alive with Colour idents for weeks now.

IIRC the last one I saw was Lake before the news a few weeks ago. I haven't seen any other of the originals since around the time the new additions were introduced. However, I have seen the Beach, Bike, Lake and Market matching breakbumpers, no Pavement Art or Urban Basketball though.

It would be a shame if they have been binned as, IMO, they are superior to the new additions both in the way they integrate the logo and the scenes they depict.

Or perhaps they are missing due to logo enlargement surgery?

They're definately still about - one was used last night into The X Factor.

I agree - far superior idents mainly due to the way the logo is incorporated and not slapped on as an oversized after thought as in some of the latest crop - which themselves are quite good, but just ruined by the logo.

OK, thanks.

Shame they aren't, or at least don't appear to be, in regular rotation with the new additions. I'm so sick of seeing the Bubbles ident; it's annoyingly pointless and not even yellow!

I suppose the problem is with the positioning of the logo.
I would personally love to see them all edited to a happier medium, the new ones are far too big, but the old ones were a bit too small.

Either that, or have them placed in the middle, would that really be that bad?

Mmm - yes!

It's the execution which lets the new lot down more than the oversized logo. The formation of the logo is integral to the original set, but little more than an afterthought on the new set.

Slapping a logo over them in the middle would just be awful.

Actually a good example is skins which have a set of credits which play before the next ep trailer which is followed by the credits.

They use them during the day and primetime only during "network hours". US networks dont operate all day and have special blocks of airtime they buy from local stations which are called affiliates. ie at 7.30pm the NYC CBS station may air a repeat of friends so this airs as normal, without any squeeze credits. then at 8pm the channel becomes CBS untill 11pm where it goes back under the control of the local station.

US shows often end with Executive Producer/Director credits. These credits are part of the show and will never be squeezed or talked over. Shows will then have the other credits which air internationally with the theme tune. When these shows air in primetime, the credits are reformatted in the generic network look by the network (not the programme makers). Therefore the US programme makers only make one set of credits (the international ones). Thus US programme makers dont have to worry about making ECP safe credits like those who make shows for itv, they just make it the way they want and the US network decides what to do with it.

Here are some examples of what brekkie boy was talking about...
From "The Amazing Race" - a reality show 10 secs of full screen credits.
UScredits.wmv
From "The Singing Bee" - a variety show like the X factor, 20 secs of full screen credits.
UScredits2.wmv
From "NUMB3RS" - a drama, shows that programme makes have full editorial freedom on how to show their credits.

Who are the current batch of announcers on ITV1 - the standard of continuity is pretty dreadful at times - most evenings now the announcer is one of the new chavy female voices - one in particular would be better suited to some Youth TV Channel.

Seems like Paul Jamieson and Mark Manchester have been sidelined to daytime continuity for most of the week.

I think BBC Continuity is far better - with creative scripts and occasional bits of fun.

ITV1 Continuity like its programmes is bland.

I agree, the one on tonight is awful. Her description of tonight's Parkinson was beyond awful.

Probably the same one who at the end of I'm a Celeb announced that "latest evictee Lynne" would be over on ITV2 but it turned out to be Marc.
