I'll quote myself here, because thinking about, the problem is the fact that they have two totally different styled ECP's on the go at the moment, it would have been a lot harder (though still could be achieved as we've seen with the next slides) if just one version was used.

What is the point of the new version anyway?
Why is it only used on Soaps at the moment, is it a trial?

I think it's more to do with when the shows are produced. Soaps will obviously be the first to change as they have the shortest period from production to going to air. No doubt more shows will make the switch soon.

But Orry shows like X Factor, which are being produced now, have the old ECP, how is that justifiable?

I was about to say, surely in that respect live shows should have changed on the day that the soaps did.

Well when the original ECPs came in during the hearts era the soaps had them for quite a while before other programmes adopted them, though when they did change to the centred style it was all done at once.

I doubt there is much reasoning - probably just circumstances comprising of a number of factors, including that ITV make their soaps, rather than commission them - it probably is on a trial basis and the soaps are the highest rating shows, so using their credits to screen promos might be most beneficiary.

I suspect though they'll be more widely adopted from the new year.

Hopefully they will be tweaked, I do think the actual credits bit should be lower third, not lower fifth.

I was thinking that too. Especially if there are plenty of credits.

Do you think that the way that I have seen other countries where the credits are on a programme specific background (no black bars), and the promotional images are just overlayed would work better?
Or is it neater with everything having the black bar?

Or should they put some sort of design into it, like 7's red bar. Though the only problem is that it's got to work across all ITV channels.

I think it just needs a bit of refinement. I think for some shows they might as well use the credits for the 'Next time' segment, like The Bill, like this:

They do this in America, may as well follow suit here if the bottom third thing is implemented.

Thats all very well but ITV would rather plug their 30 day catch up in great big letters

I wish ITV would stop these promotions on the end credits - less than a second after Corrie's ene credits started a promotion for Heartbeat was shown. I like the new style end credits but they should get rid of all these promotions.

That would be kind of defeating the point of what it was designed for.

Yeah but its still annoying they have to be on there the second the credits start.

I think they need to follow the US that one step further and close the programme with short full screen "Executive Producer" credits before moving on to the lower-third (well, lower -20%) set up for the rest of the credits.

It might only be a few seconds, but I think that space between the end of the programme and the ECP would make the promotions feel far less intrusive.
