OK- if TV Forum had been going in 1992- this could be major point.

Given TV ark have uploading the ITV telethon titles from 1988,1990 and 1992- there is one ITV company missing from the titles. So did the Carlisle based company transmit the Telethon 1992?

Curious as it is odd that the old ITV logo was 16 lines but only 15 companies appear in that line up to form the logo.

Shocked

Oh and yes i did go to Derrys Cross to sit in the audience for the 92 version. Remember giving money as well. Anyone else?

Yes everyone took the Telethon. But as they only had a certain number of lines, Border was probably not included as it was the smallest region therefore got the short straw.

Border were the first company in the titles but Granada cut to them just a slight bit too late so in that clip from TV Ark you can't really see their logo.

They made quite a bit of money first time around at least - well over £20m.

Why was it stopped - something to do with the refranchising? The only thing anything like it ITV have really done since was the "Day of Promise" a few years back - when Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire truly was a novelty!

Didn't Thames provide most of the London based production? (and LWT did the regional opt out for London?)

anglia were the first, surely?

i remember seeing border and channel tv [the smallest itv station] in the titles. granada cutting to them late seems the obvious reason. here in central land we saw them in their entirety.

i remember being at the central opening ceremony in 1992 - which starred bob warman and andrew o'connor in the ICC. oh the good old days.

Border did take part in Telethon '92 - I remember the late Eric Wallace presented their network coverage, IIRC with a NatWest banner behind him.

And from Wikipedia:

"The plug was pulled after the 1992 telethon due to protests from a group of disability rights activists from the actvist [sic] group, the Campaign for Accessible Transport, later known as the Direct Action Network. Its members claimed ITV Telethon broadcasts had depicted people with disabilities in a patronising fashion.

This had included a demonstration outside of LWT's Kent House where the main broadcast was located during the 1992 Telethon and two demonstrators had intruded on the studio when the broadcast took place".

I think they'd seriously have to raise their game if they ever brought it back. Standards and expectations have changed, and having Cannon & Ball and Su Pollard running around aggressively shaking yellow buckets in front of studio audience members just doesn't cut it any more.

Did Channel do any network contributions for Telethon?

They had 'Trading Places' day a couple of years after the last Telethon which was a charity fundraiser. It wasn't an all day programme (a few hours in the evening IIRC) but lots of programmes contributed or did features. If you've ever seen the clip of Ricjard dressed as Jud and vice versa - Trading Places was why they did it

No, the programme itself was an LWT production from their studios. The London opt-outs I think were jointly produced and came from an OB, at least one of the years this was in the Connaught Rooms
