A recent episode of 2 Pints Of Lager and A Packet Of Crisps had a deaf, signing character in it. Just thought I'd point that out.

Well it would stand out, wouldn't it, if viewers start gawping at it! I don't start staring at people signing to each other down Boston's main shopping precinct......

Katherine, you're missing the point. Boston District Council or whatever it is wouldn't be accused of tokenism - the BBC would be. The whole point I made initially was... broadcasters are damned if they don't, damned if they do. It's either unequal or tokenistic.

Does anyone have any caps from Telethon 92 in any of the other regions?

Also, did Richard and Judy present in the Granada region? I'm pretty sure they did...

Whilst I can't comment if the couple did present in the Granada region. However, I do remember them doing a This Morning special.

Absolutely - and viewers *would* gawp at it because it would be so unusual.

As I say, most people have never seen deaf people signing to each other in real life, only on television - and when it happens on non-documentary television it's usually for specific dramatic reasons (i.e. the person's deafness is in some way central to the plot).

and heres the video of the opening to the central telethon. all rather grand and amazing. at first it seems the cards forming the central logo are in the wrong place - but i think its because they couldn't get a wide enough shot and it seems to be some-what stretched.

and then there are the anti-telethon protesters who run on stage while clare raynor is talking to aspel. how rude of them!

i love the way she says "heavens" "oh dear - we've got some cross people" "all right darling" "she's a cross girl". and then the spotty teenager goes running up the stairs to claire raynor *gasp* - so michael aspel cuts away to a patronising 'disabled people are helpless' type VT .... exactly what the girl was protesting about Laughing

mind you - i wish i had claire raynor digging for eggs with a JCB on tape! what fab television that must have been.
