The thing is, it means ITV now have control over who does the Regional news. Which means we will end up with the smaller companies being replaced by ITV Bulletins.
Or Contract out?
No, ITV will engineer it their way. I doubt they'll contract out.
why not there going to try and contract out the 6pm news if there add in the morning slots then bingo
there could just go the full hog and move the lunchtime news to 12.30 and move Losse woman in that same studio aswell
ITV mornings:
* Good morning Britain
* This morning Britain
* Losse woman Britain ?
There isn't room for an audience though.
Good Morning Britain as a title would work for ITV, I think. I doubt they'd go for ITV Breakfast as it's too similar to BBC Breakfast and there needs to be a clear distinction to let the viewer know that ITV offers something different to the BBC.
If they're planning on peppering trails for ITV1 shows in the commercial spots, they'll be losing revenue from legitimate advertisers.
And recouping it from the additional viewers later on in the schedule.
This means they can also promote the ITV1 brand to viewers who watch GMTV before they go to work, meaning the ITV brand will be embedded in their mind all day and they may be more likely to watch ITV1 when they get home. If that makes sense.
ITV flashing up a few 'brighter side' promos during GMTV is not going to make the viewers flock home from work and switch on ITV1. Branding GMTV as a programme on ITV1 won't make much of a difference to viewers - the majority already assume that this is what GMTV is.
Don't expect this £22M to be recouped "in a relatively short period". If that were true, Disney wouldn't have sold their share.
Time will tell how this all pans out.
Oh that old chestnut. Do you wheel that out in every discussion? Will you use it next time somebody disagrees with you? I suppose only time will tell and we'll see who was right, etc.

I've just thought about this properly Gavin, and it's occurred to me that ITV is only allowed to show 24 30-second adverts per hour (or the equivalent). So they can show as many trails as they like at the end of an ad break and it won't make any difference to advertising revenue, because there's a limit on the number of ads they can show anyway.

Why are you so wound up by that?? I've only said it twice.

Is that correct? Isn't a trail considered part of the allocated commercial spot?
Happy to be corrected. Perhaps someone can clarify.

Possibly in the short term if contracts allow for it - however as ITV are keen to get shot of their regional commitment ASAP - it could be the other way round...
Just as interesting will be to see if GMTV's news operation at The South Bank is merged or replaced by a more ITN resourced operation at Gray's Inn Road.
Come to think of it - couldn't they move GMTV to Gray's Inn Road if they wanted to now? (Not saying they will or that it makes sense to - just that it would be easier now). That would also allow it to close the loss-making TLS and sell off some very expensive real estate with far smaller an impact on output ? *(Particularly since playout has moved out already?)
I wouldn't be surprised to see ITV sell their South Bank building at some point in the future...

It certainly used to be the case that a trail is programme information not an advert. I don't think the rules have been changed recently. Hence you get trails early Saturday evening because ITV1 are saving their ad quota for prime time. I don't think the rules have been updated to reflect trails that mention the sponsor either.
As for GMTV. My prediction is we will see no on screen change in ITV1 regions. This is a business deal, not an editorial one.
Makes sense, gives ITV total control of their whole schedule and sale of airtime.
Regarding promotion of the rest of the daytime schedule, perhaps they will have inserts from the other shows, like throwing over to Philip Schofield in the This Morning studio or Loose Women to tell viewers what is on the show.
Didn't TV-AM used to do something like that, cross promoting The Time The Place ?
