ITV stations that lost their franchise

He left to join LNN at some point in 1992.

Oh yes, he would have done. In fact LNN launched with a lot of ex TVS Newsroom staff. Wiki says Fern Briton was also with LNN Jan to April 1993, which I don't recall ?

Clive started to turn up in mid 1992 with Fern turning up a few months later. I think Clive was still heavily involved in running down TVS and certainly tried his hardest to ensure TVS staff were treated as well as possible. I think Fern started off as the LNN show biz reporter, or something similar. There were a lot, and I mean ‘a lot’ of ex-TVS staff at LNN, nothing wrong with that of course.

Didn't the BetaCart from the news studio at Vinters Park end up there too !?

She was, in fact she appeared in the launch promo for London Tonight:

When London Tonight was split into two half hours she became the host of After 5 which was on at 5:10. She presented that for at least a year, I was at LNN for a bit in summer 1994 and she was it's presenter then. After she left (presumably to do Ready Steady Cook) Caron Keating took over

Presumably the TVS connection how Chris(topher) Peacock ended up at LNN

No, the LNN News Betacart was brought brand new and was kitted out with digibeta decks of some flavour or another. I think it may have gone the other way and went to Vintners Park when it was replaced.

The Betacart used in GMTV was an ex- TLS one.

Have I got this totally wrong but did Fern present on GMTV in 1993? I have a memory that she took over 'Top of the morning' when they moved Lorraine Kelly to the main programme when it struggling. How would that have fitted in with Fern working for LNN?

Yes, she did replace Lorraine at nine o'clock, but presumably it would have been easy enough to do both. They were in the same building, for a start.

I heard that TSW cut back on making so many local shows at the end of their franchise. Apparently they moved the 3.25 repeat of Home and Away to an evening slot which previously contained regional local shows and screened one of the other Aussie soaps (possibly The Young Doctors) daily at 3.25pm. I think they also increased Prisoner Cell Block H episodes to fill some of the late night slots.

I'm sure I've asked this before years ago but can't remember the response. Were the losing franchise holders obliged to show promos for the upcoming service? E.g. the text on this video suggests it was aired on Thames but would that have been as part of the programme trails or a paid-for ad during the break? Did TVAM run trails for GMTV for example?

Yes they did. In fact it was the very last thing they broadcast.

TV-am did, albeit towards the end of their day at just before 9:25am.
The final thing they ever aired was a promo for the new GMTV, but they stuck it right at the end of the final block of adverts proceeding it, having said their goodbyes about four minutes earlier.

I do recall reading Thames got a bit snotty when it came to promos for Carlton's programming, and Carlton were ultimately forced in the short term to do a lot of it on LWT.

Turns out nobody had 2020 vision.

They definitely did in the early days, there's some videos of early TV-am closedowns where the last things they showed was a promo for another ITV show.
