ITV Soaps - how many nights a week should they air?

ITV seem to be relying on soaps to fill up their evening schedules, particular the 7-8 slots. Emmerdale is currently on 6 days a week which is beyond a joke really, some weeks may be OK for 6 eps a week when they have a big storyline (e.g this week with Dawn/Terry) but every single week is just too much.

Coronation Street is on 5 episodes a week but it isnt so bad as Emmerdale because firstly the storylines are a lot better and it does get spread out a lot more, the double on a Monday is good too and it doesnt feel like its 5 nights so much cos it has 2 eps on the same night! - Emmerdale being on 6 consecutive nights is ridiculas really, im finding it hard to keep up with 6 episodes a week.

I think they should have - Emmerdale Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs and Corrie Sun, Mon (one ep not 2) Wed and Fri - 4 eps a week is ample for these soaps and will help to maintain the quality of them as both are really good at the moment

Anyone else have any views on this? I just think a bit of variety would be better and we could then have a quiz at 7pm on a Friday. But I doubt they will get rid of the 5/6 day week now as if it pulls in the viewers that will keep ITV happy.

The problem is nowadays that Soaps seem to dominate prime time, so thats anytime between 7pm and 9pm, which really should be left open to other shows, it should go back to the days that Emmerdale went out on a Tuesday and Thursday, though they should leave Corrie alone, all they need is to take away the 8.30pm on a Monday, but frankly how boring were Sunday evenings on ITV before Corrie became a regular fixture, that was a good move. I also do believe they should take away the Friday Eastenders, as we need more light entertainment shows back in these slots, even when a good slot does appear either BBC1 or ITV seem to be showing a soap when the other is showing something which is half decent. (ie Inside Out or Tonight with Trevor McDonald)

I've voted three - Coronation Street should be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I like having two episodes on a Monday, but this should be a special treat and not every week. Sunday should be dropped.

I don't watch the other soaps.

I quite liked the way that emmerdale was scheduled pre 5/6 nights. When they increased it from 2 eps (tues & thurs) to 3 a week (tues, weds & thurs). This was good as it enabled them to give more time to storylines, but not be bombarded.
I saw one of the younger actresses on GMTV the other week, and she said that most days they start at 6am, and finish at 9pm. Though not everybody is needed all day!

I would go back this way, if only to give the actors/actresses a bit of a break. I'd have Emmerdale tues, wed & thurs at 7pm (with Tonight with Trevor McDonald moving to the 7pm slot on monday & friday), with Corrie Mon (one ep), Wed, fri & sunday, as I think the sunday works well for viewers, but I'm still indisisive if four is too much.

The reason bosses are using soaps more & more is the fact that they are resonably cheap to make, as the sets are already there, they are easy to make as all the actors/actresses, characters and locations are already set and known, and they get viewers, something that many other show dont, which is a real shame!

I agree that the Sunday night Corrie works well so I dont think they should drop it, the 8.30pm showing on a Monday should be kept for special occasions. The problem with having soaps on so much is when they want to do an hr long ep or 5 night special it isnt really anything special because we have them so often anyway.

I think 4 nights a week is OK but no more than that.

Personally, I think the current Corrie scheduling is fine, but think the Tuesday and Thursday Emmerdale episodes should be dropped in favour of an hour long edition on Sunday at 6.30pm.

Soaps should also be dropped when football/sport takes their place, rather than rescheduled.

I said 3- it's more than enough. This 5 9and sometimes 6 ) day week is stretching things thin
