I understand that we will be able to receive ITV through Sky Digital by the end of the year. However, will this mean we can pick up ANY ITV region ( or is that too complex ) or will ITV arrange for a ' Networked ' version without regional outputs ( like BBC1 and 2 on digital ).
So for example from the Granada region, could I pick up, say Channel TV or Grampian ?? Any ideas ? Oh, and I presume if it IS networked it will be arranged by Granada and therefore have the SAME announcers they use to cover Granada, YTV and TTTV regions to get their monies worth out the poor devils! That'll confuse 'em !

There will be no networked region. You will get whichever region you get on analogue.

AFAIK, there isn't an official report on whether you will be able to pick up more than one / all the channels. There's many issues regarding certain regions paying for particular shows especially sport.

My guess is that you will get your default channel on 103 but be able to select any region by using the 'Add Channels' feature. We can only wait and see...

No you wont is the simple answer to that question.
It will work on the same basis as BBC One regions.
For example, you get BBC One Wales on SkyD if you live in Wales (duh!) etc.
You will only be allowed to access one region, and that will be selected according to your postcode.
All other regions will not be possible to view, not even by the add channels feature, as only the region you are supposed to see will not be encrypted.
However, it is expected that someone will make a card to decrypt all regions.
But as things stand, you will only be able to see the region you live in, and it wont be possible to see anymore Sad
And one final note.
If you live in a region with sub regions, ie. everyone in england except Granada and Carlton/LWT.
You will only get one region.
By this I mean, Central News West will not longer exist, nor will Calendar South etc. and all the other sub regions in westcountry (4 I think) Meridian and Anglia and TTTv and Border.
So essentially this will mean you only could get one region, as instead of having to put on 16 regions, they would have to put on
*Does some maths...*
something like 27, including all sub regions, and that isnt going to happen!
How they will get around this remains to be seen.

I heard originally that border would be split up into England and Scotland, and at the time I didn;t think about other sub regions, although it is unlikly that they will put all the sub regions up. As I was reading through I thought arrh, I live near Coventry but get Central(I'm being stubbon and pensioner like) East, but if its going to be the one thing it doesn't really matter. Also when regional ITV launches will BBC get round to launching regional services to replace UK Today?

I've heard that Border is the only ITV region that will get two channels on SKYdigital. Apparently there aren't many differences between England and Scotland (both come from Carlisle). The only noticable difference is that Scotland get Scottish TV's coverage of football matches (selected ones only according to a website)

Don't forget HTV Wales and West also. It was said that they will get seperate services also, but then they are more seperate channels anyway.

What about Scottish TV and Grampian both owned by Scottish Media Group, will they be the same aswell?

So it has been confirmed? I know it seemed likely but they've now confirmed with SKY the feature of encryption according to postcode? Either way, it's a shame! Although I wouldn't bet against seeing a test feed appear broadcasting Carlton a few weeks before the official launch.

No, because they are seperate franchises, just like HTV West and Wales.
They will each get their own.
But there will be no sub regions. Not sure about Border.

So would it be possible then if someone decrypted them?

That would be great ,
Could it be possible for BBC One digital so you can watch other regions?

Yes it would be possible.
In fact it is actually possible to confuse the digibox by resetting it many times.
I got BBC One Scotland once by resetting the digibox twice in the space of 30 seconds.
And yes, they will be done by postcode.
There is not another way to do it, other than everyone ringing in saying 'Please can I see HTV, actually, no, give us Granada'.
and that wouldn't make much sense!
And test feeds are likely. In fact you will more than likely see all of the regions testing unencryted before everything is sorted out, with postcodes etc.

ITV originally said they were going to put all regions on and available to all. Have they changed there mind???? Surely if they simply put in your postcode the BBC would have regional BBC ONE + TWO on by now????
