Have noticed that subtitles on ITV are now produced by ITV SignPost from Gateshead.

Is this a new thing or rebranded?

The website you've linked to explains it pretty well:

https://signpostbsl.com/why-itv/our-story

It started out as a unit of Tyne Tees and eventually came under ITV Plc.

It's run by the Trafalgar Group Wink

Ah, so they're responsible for a character apparently referring to the Coronation Street Winter Wonderland as a "pervy wotsit" the other night, are they?

Sounds more like a description of Donald Trump.

That's a blurry screenshot of a TTTV ident there - must be a capture from the time like we see on presentation fansites (the low quality being because it's probably sourced from a VHS tape). Surely they have access to the original recording and could've used a clearer image?

Perhaps someone went on Google image search and found one from a pres website? Smile

At least they chose a real logo, and not a mock, for once.

Probably more by luck than any real skill mind. If the first Google Image result for 'Tyne Tees 1998' hadn't returned that image from a Youtube Video uploaded by whyayetv, they'd have just used whatever else came up first instead! Razz

That said when it comes to anything non-programme-related, I don't know how much is likely still held in the ITV Archives now due to the limited commercial value, and even if it is it's probably a bit of a ballache to get access to by anyone outside the building - certainly a lot more effort than a third party web agency in Wakefield gathering content quickly for a website is ever going to go to. Largely the same reason that whenever they show things from the birthday spot on Tyne Tees' history lookbacks, it's always a clip lifted off a VHS grab on TV Whirl from when Kathy Secker passed away rather than anyone being able to dig into a proper archive from the 90s.

Seriously, why would they go to all that effort just for one image on one page of their website?

It's not as if a tape of a 20 year old ident would be easy to find, it won't just be lying around at their office

I believe TVT, who were providing ITV's subtitling, have gone into administration, and subtitling has been taken in-house.
