ITV to shut down for an hour on August 27th

How will they handle the +1 channels? Closing them an hour later defeats the purpose.

In what way? They're closing down for an hour and telling people to go for a run instead of doing whatever they're doing. It doesn't matter if it would be 9:30 or 10:30.

Of course the idea is stupid, and a pretty hollow publicity attempt.

E4 did a similar thing for the general election last year to try and get people to vote.

They didn't actually "shut down", but just showed "Darren" in the control room for most of the day, which some people said at the time was more entertaining than their normal programming.

Don't turn them back on.

Well that's all of us glued to our screens for an hour then, just in case something interesting happens. Well done, ITV Rolling Eyes

Please remember that ITV aren't the only ones who did those sort of publicity stunts... Wink

They've been encouraging people to turn off ITV at 9.30am for years.

It's far more class over here, DS forums are dreadful these days, they are currently having a slanging match in the thread about Jo Cox. I had to come away.

Why are they doing this? Its like Nick's Worldwide Day of Play, but at least its only 1 hour! Gosh!

That would make sense considering Text Santa will not be returning this year.
Eh? When was that announced?

That would be a surprise considering it rates well enough and finally broke through into the national conciousness last year with the Christmas jumper day.

What a pointless gimmick.

People inclined to watch ITV at 9.30am are more likely to pick one of the other hundreds of channels available whilst sat on the couch eating a doughnut than go out and have a run.

Probaly more apt to say . . .

"People inclined to watch ITV at 9.30am are more likely to pick one of the other hundreds of channels available whilst sat on the couch smoking weed and/or drinking extra strong white "cider", than go out and have a run!"

If all the channels shut down at 9.30am at the same for an hour (I doubt they will), then the publicity stunt would be worth it.

It's probably one of their lowest rated hours of the week. If they were really wanting publicity they'd do it Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 7pm.
