which itv service should return?

The videowall is a weird one for me - I mean it should be awful. Come on, it's design is terrible, and the 3D effect on the LWT lettering is the worst 3D effect I've seen in my life. The jingle is...well indiscribable. It's recipe for a really bad ident. But despite that, I do actually quite like it. The way they dared to break with ITV's design rules and add longer edges to the ITV1 logo earns it respect aswell.

I hate the Carlton name being used on Central and Westcountry, but the idents are brilliant and I will miss them. I doubt Carlton will ever manage something as good as this again.

Anyway, TSW should return.

Well, for me, it's obvious. It has to be Thames who return, they were very professional and made countless high quality shows for the network. Aswell as that London's regional identity has been slowly shafted since 1986 when the GLC was abolished, in 1993 it hit our TV screens when Carlton arrived.

They have very little regional programming and only one regional hard-news type show Late Night London - which I don't know when (or if) it's coming back also it's stuck out of prime time. At least when we had Thames we had Thames Reports/ Reporting London at 7.30 on Tuesdays.

Carlton's idents are very professional but probably nothing that Thames could have done if they'd been around to implement it. Also Thames idents, announcers and presentation is very London based, with the skyline and the same familiar voices like Philip Elsmore whereas Carlton is just faceless and even a little bit ashamed of being the London operator.

At least the former Central and Westcountry regions get 'This is Carlton in the x region'. We get no mentions of London at all in our announcements except the title 'London Tonight'. A normal London Tonight announcement goes: ' This is Carlton Television, now it's time to join London Tonight with Alastair Stewart and Anna Maria Ashe.'

Are we the only region to get no mention of our location? (except on LWT thank god!)

as i'm in the midlands i'd love to see central fully restored

outside of my region i'd love to see thames return.
it was a national institution and i think it came as a shock to many people when carlton took the franchise off them.

Well, I've got a soft spot for the Central cake, but then that's not surprising really seeing as I grew up in Nottingham. It amazes me how popular it is on this forum though! Do a lot of us live in the Central area, or do people just love it anyway?

I never appreciated Carlton's idents purely because they took over Central, and they used the awful Central/Carlton hybrid idents. But looking at them now, and comparing them to other idents on the network, I love Carlton's idents now.

central should have been allowed to keep the cake
if carlton owned us 100% then fine but we should have our logo back and the central production with the central logo at the end of programmes made by central.

Well obviously by my name I didn't experience any of these regions though they are all great I voted other for TV-am the best breakfast service on the box I thought anyway.

i'd like to see tv-am back too. gmtv is ok but tv-am was a breakfast show and a half.

Yeah, my fab was Wacaday and seeing those mighty eggs at the end of each TV-am broadcast!
