You youngsters! I started school in 1968, there was a 405 line TV set in the assembly hall, high up ( well for a five year old! ) on the wall. I can remember watching the BBC Schools pie-clock on it, but none of the programmes!
. In 1970 the area's first UHF/625 line transmitter was built at Hannington, just a few miles from my school, it was visible from our classroom. One morning the teacher pointed it out, and asked if any of us knew what it was ? You can guess shot who his hand in the air ! The school bought a 625 line TV on a trolley, with a set top aerial, it worked perfectly for all three channels, in any classroom.
