Does anyone recall an occasion on ITV Schools on 4, when the rotomotion device was playing, and a blue screen was faded in warning of a transmitter ging down for a couple of hours? I seem to recall this was in 1989. I live in Fife, and this transmitter was in England, so it was netowrked this announcement. Was this the only time such a thing happened?

I used to watch it a lot, don't recall ever seeing anything like that!

There were occasions where Grampian (I think) opted out on Channel 4 ITV Schools and a regional programme shown. I don't know of any other regions that opted on Channel 4 ITV Schools, certainly not STV. However, a blue screen sounds more like a local transmitter-inserted caption, the kind of thing that famously appeared during lenghty industrial action periods.

Well Wales used to opt out but of course we have S4C in Wales anyway.

There were rare occasions when power failed at Horseferry Road - there is one occasion when C4 attempted to broadcast schools output but was unable to - check around the schools tv websites and you may find if the date matches up.

I believe you are wrong, about STV not opt-ing I sure there a clip of this on TV ark.

This wasn't a sudden shutdown, but a planned and scheduled shutdown of a transmitter.

Incidentally, STV did opt out during ITV Schools on 4. I watched a few, and you got an on screen glitch as they changed over. On two occasions, there was a VERY long 8 minute interval. Basically, it started with the Journey near the end, and at a convenient edit point, as it was about to end, you heard the start of the Journey, and you gfot to hear all 6 minutes of it!

Those were the days!

Interesting about STV opting - I wans't aware of that ever happening. I think STV have opted on Channel 4 for one or two Party Politicals ... a few years ago now I think ... Have any English regions of Channel 4 ever opted for programmes?

There was an RE programme that Scotland opted out for. I'm nearly certain Ulster did as well for Swings and Roundabouts.

I'd have thought that Scotland would have done lots of their own schools programmes considering the differences in their eduction system (and the different school holidays)

It does, but such a caption would appear with a non-sync crash rather than a fade wouldn't it?

Could it have been 1987 rather than 1989 and it was work to fix Crystal Palace after the Great Storm?

No, this was 1989. The great storm only happened just after ITV Schools on 4 started. This was definitley 1989, and it was faded in and out. The journey played in the background, and programmes were to time.
