This Friday, 14th September, marks the 25th anniversary of ITV schools on 4 launching, at 09:28. Quite simply, this topic is for your thoughts, memories, and queries.
And lets be honest, it was some logo they actually used on it wasn't it!
Why did they decide to call it "ITV Schools on 4" and not just "4 Schools"? I know that C4 was still funded by the ITV companies back then, but it seems a bit of a clunky name to use.
The reason why it was ITV Schools on 4 was simply because ITV was providing the service, but using Channel 4 airtime to provide it. ITV was still required to provide schools programming, and although the service was on 4, it nonetheless was an ITV service. In June 1993, ITV's service to schools ended, and the entire service was handed over to Channel 4, though in reality the obligations on ITV ended when the new franchises started on 1st January 1993. ITV just kept the service going until the end of June that year.
Promos for new material during that interim period (January to June) also publisied the new school year, with leaflets showing "4 schools"
I think it was to show it was the same stuff just on a different channel.
Basically this, but if ITV had their own way they would have moved Schools over in 1984 like they did with midweek horse racing, but the IBA being the firm grip they were said no, as C4 didn't have 100% coverage. It was probably the launch of BBC Daytime in October 1986 that gave them more incentive to move the Schools to C4.
Although the logo and the music is a product of 1987, it doesn't get boring at all.
Did C4 itself have any kind of daytime schedule back then, or was it as a case of coming on air for "ITV Schools" then going off air for a bit before C4 kicked in later in the afternoon.

Nope, from what I understand around 1986/7 C4 usually started at 1.30pm on a weekday and 9.25am on weekends. It was around this point they introduced Business Daily and I think it may also have been when Sesame Street changed channels too. They also dabbled with 'Open College on Four' aswell around this point, that was shown at lunchtimes.
