Doesn't the word Granada signal the north west anyway, to me it does?

Granada is: A city of southern Spain southeast of Córdoba. Founded by the Moors in the eighth century, it became the center of an independent kingdom in 1238. The city was captured by Castilian troops in 1492, ending Moorish control in Spain. Population: 256,784.

But I think we've been so used to the name Granada that we have embraced it in Northern Society.

They chose Granada for their company, then just a cinema chain, because it was deemed exotic in the days before cheap air travel and package holidays to Spain.

They chose to broadcast to the north because their cinemas were in the south of England and they didn't want to compete with themselves

ITV's Corrie writers are complaining about it being kicked about the schedules

I'm all for schedule changes as part of the revamp.

A schedule overhaul would be more appropriate.

Keep the GRANADA name I say! It's been established since 1956 and is well known worldwide. Cool

LWT was a well known brand, with had a hell of a lot more quality programming then Granada, yet they ditched that. And locally our ITV channel was and indeed is still know as HTV yet they renamed it ITV West. If they want to go about killing off the regions, they need to drop ALL the old ITV regional names.

What about when the licence runs out for regions? Surely they just don't get a renewal automatcaly. Isn't ofcom the new IBA, so would still issue the licence? Correct me if i'm wrong, but are the regions not still ofically companys?

Ofcom are never going to be like the IBA. The IBA was a solid company which was there to maintain good standards on commerical television. Ofcom are there for the shareholders, not the viewers.

The suggestion that any of the current companies could lose their licence is crazy, especially an ITV Plc. station. Ofcom do not belive in the original purpose of Channel 3, which was essentially that the companies should provide quality programmes to their audinece, many of them being of local relevcance, and that they should compete with each other to make networked programmes. The loss of the original formula has made ITV the way it is. Forget all the regional identity and regional programmes, the fact that there is no competition in the network means that less thought is put into the programmes, and that is why ITV are in this mess with canceling programmes etc.

And yes... technicaly each region is a company in it's own right... but they're just all owned by ITV Plc. Tyne Tees Television and Central Independent Television are examples of the channel you may be watching, but the branding exercise in London means that ITV Plc. stations are branded as ITV1. Despite the fact that ITV1 isn't the real name of any of the stations.
