But I think we've been so used to the name Granada that we have embraced it in Northern Society.

Well I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone thinks the current situation is confusing. You have national idents for national programmes and regional idents for regional programming. Same as BBC One. I don't recall hearing on the news of people exploding in confusion at this.

But ITV doesn't always show the regional idents for regional programmes, and when they do, the announcer heardly mentions the region!

Well not really. Most of you seem to be making it up that at the moment, ITV is confusing to viewers. It isn't, and certainly doesn't have people switching off because of it. I personally think that ITV1 should ditch all regional branding on idents etc and have it more like on ITV News at 10.30, where they say something along the lines of "and now the news from where you are".

I know you were against regional branding.
