Granada Television is the official name for the North West region. Carlton and Granada did merge but that has nothing to do with the franchise of the North West region.
I cant see them calling it Granada Meridian or Granada Granada, most likely those regions would be renamed Granada South and Granada North West. Most other regions could stay as they are as they represent the geographical name for the region e.g Granada Wales, Granada London, Granada Central etc.

Isnt the official name for ITV North West, Carlton Granada? I suppose thats right, as they did merge, and its been the name in some TV Guides I have seen. Imagine now on ITV1 Carlton Granada, ITV Carlton Granada News.

Why is everyone going mad about this? And all of this renaming nonsense, the only thing I can see happening is probably a change in logo and that the whole operation will stay the same as it currently is...
All ITV licences are all operated from the proper licence names, eg Granada Television, Carlton Television/London Weekend Television
The on-screen branding will remain as ITV1
Regional productions stay as ITV (Name goes here) and Network will be Granada (Name goes here)

I think becuase Granada is now an International brand in its own right.
I remember the Micheal Jackson trial when it was talking about the Martin Bashire program, it kept talking about how it was a Granada production and was transmitted on Granada. But no mention of ITV or anything to point out that it had anything to do with 3, the nations favourite number.
Granada is growing, the ITV brand is not.

But surely that comes back to the branding mess, where they chose to rename all Granada, Carlton and the regional variants as 'Granada' rather than the merged company name of ITV.
The way I see it is that if you agree to merge, then you use the new name. It would be different if Granada had taken over Carlton, but it was supposedly a merger.
And I also don't agree with the idea that it's used as Granada are known worldwide, ITV will never be known worldwide if they don't start to use it. I also don't agree with the fact that you can't have an ITV production for Channel 4, five, sky or the BBC. Why not?
You have Sky News productions for five, you technically get BBC productions under other names of minor companies (this again, I do not understand). So I can't see any reason why they could not use it.
Every brand has to start somewhere, (Napstar, Playstation, five even)and even though it's known in the UK, it doesn't mean that it's known everywhere.

Any updates on the revamp debut date?
I don't see the Granada [REGION] brand happening, and if it did, it would feel like a step backwards.
At least, my idea of a step forwards would be something like a simple, clear new ITV Logotype used in a range of idents that vary considerably in style, while having a consistent colour scheme or symbol.
Using multiple soundtracks instead of just one or two similar pieces, would be welcome.
Whether the logo itself will be the central symbol, so to speak, remains to be seen.
I don't know the situation with ITV1 Region-specific Branding (ITV1 WEST/YORKSHIRE/MERIDIAN etc; or what have you), but I've never seen such in the idents (compared to BBC ONE, who have Regional branding and announcer into all main News I have seen), so it would be good if we see this moreso into new ITV presentation.
Can someone explain how it came about that there was a West region, and a separate Westcountry region? Perhaps Westcountry is what I see to be South West....
Try Granton?

Even if they'd called it Carada [Carlton&Granada],it would have been better than calling everything Granada!
