What is the reasoning behind this? Are all regions losing soccernight?

I know that ITV London didn't bother with Soccer Night this season, it was known as "Hancock's Half Time" presented by Nick Hancock and Sarah Jane Mee who also did it for Central. I wouldn't have thought that the BBC would be getting the rights in the summer but they would have to wait at least a year for the rights to begin. To be honest I reckon Westcountry Soccer Night is one of the best or the best version. Not as good as Soccer Sunday but close, Westcountry showed extended highlights of the three major teams in the region. Also have watched West which I think is poor concentrates on the Bristol clubs mainly. I do like having a regional football programme and I hope when the BBC has the rights to Football League highlights it does. Link to Inside Sport maybe? Have Inside Sport then a highlight show or do it like the Politics Show that have a regional slot for about 20 minutes?

Don't you mean Nick Hancock? Would have been a bit difficult for Tony Hancock to present Wink

If I'm correct then if ITV hand their license back then it won't be ITV Regions that return but just another channel. There is nothing to say a small company won't bid for the entire third stream or an existing company e.g. Sky bidding for the place for Sky One.

ITV handing back their ITV licenses then Granada, Carlton etc won't return anyway because they are all under the ITV franchise. We could end up with just another national channel, with no regional output whatsoever. At least ITV show regional news.

Not sure this is the right thread, but on Tyne Tees soccernight tonight they said it will be the last ever soccer night. "Thankyou for watching over the years... ending with "goals brought to you bt TTTV"

Yes there will be no Soccer Night in any of the regions next year in the final year of ITVs contract. Knowing ITV its probably supposed to be a spoiler so people forget that football exists and dont watch the coverage when it switches to the BBC! (although i've heard that the BBC aren't planning a regional highlights show).

The final ever Soccer Night in any region will be on ITV West next Thursday - a one hour special previewing the mighty Bristol City at Wembley.

Soccer Sunday will continue in Wales though.
