Also, completley unrelated question: Will the Channel Islands go digital, even though they technically aren't part of the UK?

its not their political status thats the problem - more their proximity to france and potential interference with french tv signals.

So their stuck with anolouge? I heard that they were stuck without colour until the 80's I think.

They were the last Region to go Colour, but I believe this was in about 1976. It was until about 1982 when Broadcasting Hours restrictions were lifted, this happened in the UK 10 years earlier. But as tvmercia said, it's more of a problem with the interferance with French signals. I haven't been to the Islands for over a decade, but AIUI Channel 5 isn't available on Terrestrial is it?

Nope, we're pretty behind in those respects. No Channel 5, no Freeview, no DAB radio. Annoying really as i listen to a lot of radio and can't get the likes of LBC, talkSPORT etc on my crappy analogue radio in my car. I can pick up pretty much every French radio station going though. Damn the French!

I wouldn't say not being able to get DAB is a disadvantage. Unless you want loads of virtually identical jukebox stations, in mono at appaling bitrates.

No amount of DAB or Freeview reception will get you LBC in your car in the Channel Islands!

Not true. I've been listening to Iain Lee in my car every day this week on the way home. Ok it's a podcast but it's still LBC Razz

I get Tyne Tees here in Bradford and an awful reception of Yorkshire, bizarre or what!

Obviously it dosen't matter now of course, but always admired the Tyne Tees continuity style and idents and presentation over Yorkshire, it's all the same now boring!

Seems to be a common problem in Bradford from what I've heard, I knew a guy in Uni who complained of the same thing, although when he got wind of the fact that I was a Tyne Tees-enthusiastic TV pres anorak I never heard the end of it, hence the drunken rows about TV pres in the student bars which were pretty surreal I have to say Laughing

I live a few miles away from Emley Moor (Yorkshire) but get clearer reception from Belmont (Yorkshire East) on set top aerials (they can't see over the hill to Emley). Also get clear Tyne Tees, and weak Yorkshire South (Sheffield) and Central West. But like's been said, makes no difference now.

LOL, Laughing , it's very surprising, the strange thing is thought I do get the correct Look North, but fiddling with the aerial gets me a really weak reception of Yorkshire TV!

Surely Emley Moor is easily accessable from Bradford?

I heard rumors that when stv central (scottish?) split their news service, there will be problems because the transmitter which will be transmitting to Eastern Scotland (Edinburgh, the lothians, etc) will also be recieved in parts of lanarkshire which certainly want to hear more stories concerning greater glasgow than edinbrugh! Going over to the "other side" for a moment though, isn't BBC South a fairly diverse region i.e. it shares weymouth with BBC South West and shares brighton with BBC South-East! Also heard there are parts of Greater London which recieve BBC south and vise-verca.
