I believe it will probably happen sometime this year. The national and London weather on ITV has been broadcasting in 16:9 for the past three years, so it would also be a backward step to go 4:3 again. Because the weather now follows a new corporate look they are also made in widescreen, but have to be cropped in order to make a smooth transition within regional programmes.

I really do think these graphics are a step in the right direction but I would like to see the green land a bit darker so the actual icons are more visible.
Also I would prefer not to see the region name in the corner during the weather - I thought ITV wanted to get rid of regional branding? This seems to be a step backwards!!! As much as I used to like regional branding I feel this is a token gesture and not even done properly! Also it is so small in the corner that you cant read it properly anyway!

I'm not too sure about using the end credit rundown thingy either - stating Today, Tomorrow etc. Good idea but don't think it looks that great on screen.
Also one MAJOR point - why are all the weather bulletin now 14x9 with the black bars top and bottom - does this mean they are being made in 16 x 9 widescreen ready for when ITV News transfers to widescreen? Will this happen soon?
