Oh, they've finally realised it'd be rather handy to put a symbol over London so we had some idea of what it's going to be like here rather than guessing by the weather in Essex and North Kent.

Still not very comprehensive for the capital city. I've often wondered why ITV or the BBC don't provide a Central London forecast. BBC London have done it very occasionally but it seems to vary wildly.

Mr Mills added that the new forecasts would provide a "clear, modern approach to weather programming. Viewers are not interested in too much scientific jargon so we will provide them with concise, relevant and meaningful weather bulletins, supported by visually compelling images".

When did ITV Weather ever use "scientific jargon"? Any less scientific and we'll get a picture of a little man with an umbrella instead of a map.

How about instead of removing things like the Atlantic pressure charts "because people don't understand them" a little time is taken to explain them. It's not difficult to grasp. I'd train journalists first. I've lost count of the number of times that I've told journalists that saying it's going to be "windy" means nothing at all. How strong and from what direction? Living on the east coast of NI a westerly storm's not going to bother me much, but an easterly wind will.

I could go on about this for a long time, as you may have gathered it's one of my specialist subjects... Rolling Eyes

ITV really do know how to balls up a brand. Reminds me of an earlier tirade penned by me...

ITV's absolutely awful branding

I love the programming, but its marketing department are a bunch of wasters.

At least ITV now has the same Weathetr graphics for ITV1, ITV NC and the Regions, but I can say I don't like the blue they use, it is awful. IMO I would have preferred if they used the old GMG Graphics, they were basic and up to the job and they didn't look pathetic.

Though this must be the first sort of refresh that ITV National Weather have had in years!

Yes, I agree that the blue looks hideous.

I agree. I used to like the ITV National Weather look. I don't mind this one but I wish SMG would take it up!

Well this just looks awful. I imagine it's another go at bringing the ITV logo in everywhere. From all my memory of national and regional weather on ITV and indeed every other channel, this has to be the worst. GMG's graphics were hardly inspiring - though TTTV certainly tried their hardest to bring some life to them, including a nice edit to the weather sting. I can't see any way this could be made to look good, other than trashing the whole design.

And Becky Mantin - can't stand her. I can't stand YTV's presenters, but any of them would do better. Can't ITV just get some decent forecasters for once - perhaps it would be best if they just scrapped the weather altogether.

I also think that there needs to be some continuity with the weather logo that itv use. The original scratched logo appears in the Powergen sponsorship trail, and during the actual forecast the logo is split into squares. I do not really see any need for the logo on the map at all, is this the first sign of a DOG for itv 1?

I hope you mean the old graphics - even SMG looks better than that. Roll on BBC Weather revamp.
