I think I've seen a repeat of ATV's The Golden Shot where a couple were introduced as being "All the way from the Grampian region". I don't think it was anything official, just a small verbal celebration on the part of the presenter of ITV's old regional structure. Quite endearing really!

I can believe that about TGS although with Bullseye, a few years ago Challenge showed the 1984 series of Bully, the last one to do this, so it was quite weird hearing 'From TVS we have...', but I'm pretty certain by the series after the references had stopped.

Hmm, I thought Central carried on with Shortland Street to the bitter end. Certainly, when they moved all the news bulletins around in 1999, I was living in ATV Land, and 5.30-6.30 became the regional hour and the regions either showed an hour-long regional news or a half-hour local show followed by the regional news at six, but Central showed Shortland Street at 5.30 five days a week. That's a better slot than Home and Away got! And also opposite Neighbours, which seems a bit stupid.

Shortland Street was kept to the bitter end till. it started of at 3.20pm slto then moved to 5.10pm to replace blockbusters and stay there till 2000. In 2000 - 2002 it went back to lucnhtime slot 1300-1330 until 2003, when it was axed with Centrel being the only place to shown it for over 10 years alot of people were not happy.

in 2002 :Westcountry, HTV, London had to miss out a tone of episode

Quote:
It only lasted a few months at 5.30 but I think most other regions had already dropped it. Central seemed to be crazy about their Australian soaps, though, they also showed something called Echo Point which I don't think was on in any other region, and they were one of the only regions to show Blue Heelers as well.

Actually not alot of place actully brought Blue Heelers

* Central Television: run it up to Season 6 or 252 espoide (1999),
* Westcountry did show it
* (UTV) run from 95 - 98 ( it start off 3 times a week) but later went to once a week
* Meridian Television had it was well even using it daily in the mornings
* STV WHY there brought this I never know,
It start I believe in 1995 and in 1996 it went to Fridays to replace ACP, it self was replace a year later with even more murder she wrote: which was going out at monday and Wednesday, so with Friday add it was 3 times a week. only lasted a 106 epsoides, maybe there should have kept ACP for another year.

Border TV showed Blue Heelers, but I have no recollection of the dates.

I think when they moved Home and Away to 5pm in 1999, I think it was Networked for the first time, as you say the 5.30pm slot was Regional then, Granada had an hour long News programme for a couple of years. But I think by this point most Regions had H&A on at 5.10pm anyway, I do remember Border to be the only region showing at 6.30pm.

Yes, I think Central might have been the only region still showing it at six, Granada had certainly moved it and I think Carlton moved it to 5.10 late on. I think most of the other regions almost always showed it at 5.10, apart from Border as you say. The 5pm slot was indeed the first time it had been networked, they did an advertising campaign for it and everything.

The following year, when Channel Five bought it, ITV began phasing it out by dropping the lunchtime episodes, but not in all regions. I think Central were one of those that stuck with lunchtimes.

Regarding ITV inter-region games/quiz shows the one that springs to my mind was 'Anything You Can Do' produced by Granada in the early 70's. This was a childrens show in which each region competed against one another through talent acts, quizzes and games. Eg; Border vs Southern, Anglia vs Tyne Tees, etc. building up to a grand final. It was presented by Chris Kelly. A clip of it was shown on Granada about a year or so ago in a series looking at Granadas output from the past.

HTV liked their aussie soaps too although they did not show Blue Heelers or Echo Point.

They showed;

Sons and Daughers - ended May 1991
The Sullivans - ended Mid 1993
The Young Doctors - ended April 1994
Prisoner - ended April 1996
A Country Practice - ended March 1999

All of these they showed in full.

Central were the first to complete Prisoner, Sons and Daughters and The Young Doctors so certainly liked the aussie soaps. Im quite surprised they never showed The Sullivans - it was axed when it was still ATV.

'With most of the northern regions taken The Sky's the Limit.'

I can remember watching an edition of The Sky's the Limit (Produced by Yorkshire TV) in which Hughie Green welcomed new viewers in 'Granadaland' to the series at which point his 'dizzy' hostess the late Monica Rose paraded onto the set in Flamenco dress with castanets etc. welcoming all the spanish viewers!

There was a kids news quiz in the early 80's presented by Tommy Boyd which had teams representing ILR stations

I remember a 5 minute 'ATV News' bulletin at 6pm, then 'Crossroads' at 605pm, then the 'rest' of 'ATV Today' from 630 to 7pm.

Later it became 'Crossroads' at 6pm, then 'Central News' at 625 thru till 7pm.

When 'Crossroads' finished, what replaced it?

Did 'Home & Away' take over the 6pm slot straightaway or did something else get transmitted before then?

When did 'Central News' move to 6pm?
