And the time it was revealed that Central was gonna become Channel 3 Midlands...

I remember that! Wasn't that rumour (or should that be 'lie') accompanied by the world's most unconvincing, jagged-edged, squashed-looking, and generally p*ss-poor mock based on a re-edit of the Channel 3 North East logo?

Some people still seemed to think it was gospel. Rolling Eyes

Well just to confirm that I am not just stirring!!!

It was reported on Media Guardian website that it is likely that the regional news programmes on ITV are to be rebranded again to highlight the ITV name and reduce the visibilty of the regional brands. I then contacted my mate who works at Central TV to see if he knew anything about it.

He told me that this is the current plan to bring the regional news into the "ITV News" brand rather than the regional names. Thats why they are adopting the ITV News (region) brand.

So my sources aren't just a load of codswallop as some of you have said. It is what ITV plc are planning. Apparently now they are all one company ITV feels that the regional brands are pretty much pointless! They don't mean anything in the scheme of things!

As for Calendar, I may have been incorrect there, its just what I was told by my mate! He said he couldn't confirm the exact names but this is what he has heard!!!!

The bringing the programmes inline with ITV News happened on the relaunch when all of the on screen graphics were changed. if they had wanted to take it further they would have done, afterall they couldn't care less if people wanted local branding.

Besides, who cares if it happens it happens, its only a word

If these claims are true (not saying they are), then all ITV could be doing is sticking the ITV News logo underneath the name, in much the same way that BBC puts BBC News at the bottom of the screen on there regional news.

I see that Meridian have now moved to the new site in Whiteley, Hampshire - somewhere between Fareham and Southampton. Another nail in the coffin for ITV regional news. Hey I've come up with a great slogan. ITV NEWS FOR THE REGIONS - BROADCAST OUTSIDE THE REGIONS. It may just catch on. And whilst I'm on the subject - why on earth have Meridian's south east programme employed that monkey Phil Hornby the present the main programme? He looks awful. Nice guy that I'm sure he is - he looks very uncomfortable.

Is Whiteley not in the ITV South Region then?

It's in the south bit of Meridian, but NOT the south-east bit, Inspector.

That's what the (ex) staff and a load of MPs are complaining about.

Not QUITE as bad as us poor sods in the west getting our programmes from a different COUNTRY for all those years!

Just like us poor sods in the Border TV region, On the England side it feels like we get bombarded with Scottish news and programmes and on the Scottish side they feel like they are bombarded with English news and programmes, The poor old Manx folk hardly get a mention!
