ITV Regional News to lose their regional names!

It is confirmed that the ITV regional News programmes names will be axed early next year.

Central News will become ITV News Central
Anglia Tonight will become ITV News East
Meridian Tonight will become ITV News South
Calendar will become ITV News North East
Granada Reports will become ITV News North West
Border News will become ITV News North
Westcountry News will become ITV News South West

following the suit of HTV Wales News and HTV West News.


Michael Jermey has been appointed by ITV to oversee the changes!

Time to do something now before it's too late...get emailing, writing, phoning...do what you have to do to save the regional names. Contact ITV, Ofcom, MPs, the government....everyone!!!

At least we'll get a new look.... me hopes. But terrible idea.

Hope it's not true, but i doubt the only new thing would be Titles as Granada's set is only just over a year old.

Probably a refresh of the titles most likely. See aswell, with for example, ITV News Central, it takes away the regional name of ITV Central, as its ITV News in Central England and not ITV Central's News, if you know what I mean.

...I really, really couldn't give a bugger. Proper regional ITV died years ago; the renaming of the news means nothing.

How can Border News become ITV News North when Border covers the SOUTH of Scotland as well as Cumbria in the North (West)???

Calendar should be the one renamed ITV News North!!!

Why not simply add ITV to the start of the title, like in the Midlands, they have occasionally verbally called themselves ITV Central News.

I don't believe this.

The encaps of the regions match the names of their news programmes, except for Tyne Tees (North East Tonight), so I don't see this happening. It was said in February that the regional anmes were going to be kept for News and local programming. HTV was replaced becuase it sounded to simular to ITV.
