Westcountry Live and Westcountry News NEVER have any ident of any kind before it. I would guess this is the norm in all areas of the country......
However RichardM, I have noticed of late that the ITV1 Westcountry logo appears before national news broadcasts......which is an improvement because at one time they weren't even putting them before the local non-news programmes (Tues 19:30 etc).
Although, as has been said, the regional name is small, and because of the length of our regional name it is very small indeed to fit directly under the first yellow rectangle

ITV must see it not fit for the local news not to even have an announcement. What great days they were when we had local continuity, but as the saying goes you don't know how lucky you are until something is gone. Chris Langmore and Peter Griffin were great friendly announcers. I always remember after the Evening News we used to get a " Good evening from us here in Plymouth and welcome to this evening on Westcountry or Carlton as it was in the later days. You always knew you were in good company. Now you are lucky to get any emotional continuity, ironic realy when ITV's current idents are based on emotions...
ITV Wales dont show an ident before any of the local bulletins either. I expect the reason for this is because they dont have time to record an announcement for each individual region.

Indeed - retrospect is a wonderful thing. Looking back now, Carlton-ised Westcountry wasn't actually that bad at all. It might have lost it's name, but it was still operated as an autonomous (well, fairly autonomous anyway) local station. Peter Griffin still pops up to do the odd news bulletin and weather foreast, whilst Chris headed to London as part of the national team - however all he ever seem to do was voice pre-recorded regional annos and in no time at all he was gone.

Westcountry's takeover by Carlton actually did a lot to improve continuity down this way though. Early Westcountry continuity was dire, frequently programmes were introduced by an ident but no continuity at all, or else simplistic 'now on Westcountry, <programme name>. When Carlton took over, and Westcountry's staff realised that the station was living on borrowed time, there seemed to be a great drive to feel more local.
Even into 2002, they were still doing fairly old school 'welcome to programmes from Carlton' startups, and greeting you 'from the team in Plymouth' when prime time started. It's amazing how quickly it all changed.

There does seem to be little consistancy with how the regional names are applied now. At least in the celeb days, there did appear to be a policy of what ident would appear when and when a regional ident would and wouldn't appear, but when they introduced the previous set of idents, it all seemed to go out of the window - once in a link into a *network* programme, there was a pre-recorded link proclaiming 'now on Westcountry' for possibly the first time in 5 years, yet the later regional programme had a Westcountry-branded logo but the announcement appeared to be a generic live announcement from London, talking about the national programe following it. It seems to have got little better with the current efforts.

Possibly, but I don't think it is good enough. It is the small things that make all the difference.
I don't think ITV has any care for the regions - if it didn't have to have local news it would ditch it tomorrow.
If it could carry cash making 'phone-in shows 24/7 - it would from tomorrow.
It has lost touch with the viewers.
I personally think it time to say "ITV - the regions are opening up to tender again and you'll have to fight for each one!"
Now their's a quote, "I don't think ITV has any care for the regions"....Uhmm how long has it taken you to realise that.? They don't give a monkey's fart about the regions, that all went in 2002 when it all became one ITV, and if you think about it, that's when ITV's overall share of the viewers rapidly fell. ITV's strength WAS it's regionality. SAdly, those days are very unlikely to return. If its a diet of soap's and quiz TV that turns you on, then ITV is YOUR channel.
Presumably to market ITV1 as a brand, it all sucks quite frankly, I'd rather see regional idents, with a small ITV logo to associate the station as an ITV company, I am pretty sure the local names were more popular then ITV1

Here here, I still refer to my local TV station as Tyne Tees, I never say I'm watching ITV1, bring back the local names, local TV station idents back and restore our regional identities.
Like everywhere else in ITVplc land, Central has no idents whatsoever before regional news.
On those weekdays when there are late-night non-news regional programmes (e.g. politics and soccer), the ident into the ITV News At 10:30 has
Central
written on it, and the announcer references the non-news regional programme coming up later. (Presumably all pre-recorded?)
Whether those actual programmes themselves have a regional ident leading into them, I don't know (I've not bothered staying up to watch).
But the 7:30pm non-news regional programmes seldom (if ever) have
Central
on the idents.
How many idents are there in total?? The only ones I can think of are:
The toast going up the stairs with the man on the motorbike at the end
Tree-huggers
Camping in a field with the cows running all over the place
Man with the single white rose
Kids rolling down the hill
Man getting changed under the beach towel with the man nodding off on the train at the end
Pigs in mud at the end
The boxing one
The football one
The woman watching the sad film in the cinema
Anymore? Do they have any official or un-official names for each ident?
The idents are only boring cos the same 3 or so are used again and again.
