On Calendar's local CSO studios, when they're doing the local bulletins during the 6pm Calendar, they show pictures next to the presenter to go with the news item. (Forgive my simple explaining, I'm not certain how to describe it with properly). I'm wondering, do they just replace the entire background that appears behind the presenter, or is the picture imposed over the top?
Whilst we're here, can I just check which ITV regions have CSO news studios... Granada (??), Westcountry, Central West, Calendar, Border, are there any others?
Does UTV Live News bulletins come from a CSO studio?
I would guess that the images are done on the CSO, because then when the vision mixer cuts away from the CSO source to VT (for example) they don't also have to remove an overlay at the same time, so less chance of cockups

I think they still do... it recently changed from a (rather good) graphic still CSO to an equally good moving video of the actual set... so it looks like the presenter is sitting in the bigger studio - complete with plasma showing a moving UTV Live logo - but in actual fact, it's the continuity suite.

Well, pretty well every broadcast vision mixer around these days can do at least 2 keys on each mix-effects bank (some do 3 or 4), so there is no more chance of a cock-up when cutting from a source with 2 keys on it to a VT than from a source with only one key on it.

Even if you haven't got a mixer that can cope with lots of keys on one bank then you can either use a second bank to create the background. which is then keyed on a different bank, or get graphics to generate a composite background...

Do they ? They don't on East, they have that generic image of those screens with "Calendar" on them the whole time. Do they have images for the Leeds opt ? If so, why ?

Yes SE they have an image to accompany the item but all the items.

There... praise - at last - for UTV!
I think utv live is one of the best local news sets on itv. The plasma with the moving logo is very well done.
Why is everyone ready to have a go at UTV - at least they are still doing there own thing!!!!

Indeed - it's just far too easy these days! Anyone else remember the old BBC-designed vision mixers with one fader per channel like sound mixing desks??
