The logic I think is ITV move out, TLS close down, the building is redeveloped. The big studio(s) go and only a few smaller ones for Daybreak and the like are factored into the new design.

Where the large shows Norton, QI etc go would be up in the air, TVC can take some of it, but there's only 1 studio 1 at TVC.

Maybe we should club together to build some studio space, I can think of a number of "homeless" shows now that TLS joins the ranks of dead studios now...

Which is why, I would not be surprised if in a couple of years post 2018, ITV look for a 8,500sq feet sized space with 400ish push back audience seating space somewhere around 15-30 mins from Central London to use to record
the old 'black shiny floor' TLS1 shows in.

This Morning could still come from its own studio - as it's production office and studio is pretty much separate from the main Kent House block.

I can see GMB either coming from a CSO at 200 Grays Inn Road (although that would look horrid if they did the current set look alike) more likely, it could fit into TC2 as a permanent struck set.

Lorraine and Loose Wimin. The Hospital in Covent Garden maybe?

Sorry if i've completely misunderstood the news, but didn't ITV buy their Southbank lot a few years ago? Why would they now want to get rid of it?

I have read a few articles and some seem to make out they are getting rid, others seem to make out they are moving out temporarily to redevelop the lot so i'm quite confused.

They're not getting rid of it, they're refurbing the building but losing the studios business in the process. Reread the original email.

"Losing the studios business" is different to closing the studios. Could they perhaps be looking to sell the main studios to a separate company willing to make the investment and hire them as and when they need them?

The suggestion that investment in studios is not at the core of a business called ITV Studios is laughable by the way.

The current building (including tower block) is being flattened and a purpose built office will rise from the rubble. There is no guarantee of any studios in the new site, let alone studios for each of the daytime shows. By the time the site comes back on line (predicted 2022) those shows may not exist anyway!

But surely the reason they're not keeping the studios is because they need the room for something else? The site is only finite

Not really, like the BBC Studios name they're using the word 'studios' in the other sense

Keep in mind it's the land thats the costly bit, the building on it is the cheapest part when it comes to London. They may well want to demolish the entire thing and rebuild. At the very least it'll get stripped to the walls and completely refitted.

I also find it amusing that ITV wanted to "bring everyone together under one roof" whereas the BBC wanted to spread everyone about a bit.

It's almost like television studios are an outdated concept and people are trying to get rid of them all as quickly as possible.

and arguably the biggest investment in building them in recent years has been by a phone company...

So the daytime shows are going to need something far more permanent than temporary studios.

The Lorraine and Loose Women sets can pretty much go anywhere because they've been designed so that they can be easily taken apart. GMB and This Morning will be more problematic. Studio 5 will have to be stripped down, and I assume the set will be rebuilt elsewhere.

I imagine there are a lot of memories in those studios for a good deal of people.

Eek, that's a shame, in my mind the tower and the centre is as iconic as TV Centre. More so probably as it was the TV building you always saw when we went up to London whereas I never had reason to go to Shepherds Bush till I worked there in my 20s

I'd imagine the new building will have a tower of some sort, after all the fact there's one there now is a precedent when it comes to going through planning

That's a mistake many of these sorts of developments and facility building projects get wrong - they just plan for the current needs and not multi purpose facilities. LWT didn't build the building with a 'Frost' studio and an 'On The Buses' studio

But again with all the new stuidos about to come on line is there going to be enought business to justfty the cost of keeping them.

I know but this is the long term game. Look at STV if there need studios there just ask BBC scotland Next door to use Studio A or B.
