ITV abandons the South Bank

Now this thread's been resurrected it does make you think how screwed ITV would potentially have been right now if they'd have pursued their massive rebuilding of TLS rather than selling it for a sizeable profit. Their income's already stretched and that's with rented office accommodation. Imagine the impact the weight of a huge construction project would have had on the company during Covid.

ITV would have sold the development of the new residential tower to a private developer and that money would have paid for the new studios and office buildings.

Offices now being rented out. Studios already all leased out. There's a virtual tour where you can see the 9th and 21st floors as they are now.

Although if they'd starting the project a year or two later then they could have tweaked layouts and designs with covid in mind, and got the construction cheaper because of the upcoming recession.

The way they've done well is in not having two things which covid has temporarily reduced demand for - office space and TV studios. I'm surprised that so much of the office space there has been rented out unless that was the occupancy 4 months ago.

If the studios have been rented to use as studios in the way they were then that's unfortunate, and they'll have lost months of their lease. Though I imagine the owners plans for the site are being rethought and developmen delayed even further

So they're keeping the studios? Who is renting them? If they were available to anyone then im sure many well known shows would be delighted to go back.

Also have they fixed the lifts

ITV sold the building to Mitsubishi Estate London Limited in June 2019. https://www.egi.co.uk/news/itv-picks-new-buyer-for-former-south-bank-home/

The studios were advertised as a four waller with no kit, no galleries, no nothing - everything was auctioned or scrapped.

I doubt there is any hope now that the studios will be re-fitted and rented out as proper television studios by a new company. I think the pandemic put paid to any idea of that now, with audience based shows now restructuring their programmes for the rest of the year.

Indeed come 2021 I don't see huge audience based shows back to normal, just because it is a new year doesn't mean the virus is gone, and social distancing will most likely be in place.

LH2 is basically a "four waller" so you could in theory use these studios and truck back-of-house infrastructure in. Of course this is when we ever get back to large shiny-floor studio shows again

We got one of the sound desks.
When it arrived, it still had the labelling from the final Graham Norton show it had done.

Yeah, I ended up with some stuff from both TLS and Fountain. All still labelled as it was last time it was used!
