Why are you finding it so hard to understand? If you have something to say about a subject that doesn't already have a thread, start a new one. Do you really not understand why these threads[1][2] were locked?

Those were not the threads I was on about.

Why is there a separate thread on the five new idents? Shouldn't they be talked about here?

They were, but have been split off.

I don't see how five new idents warrant a new thread when they can be discussed in the existing thread.

Because members (myself included) wouldn't know about it unless it was made obvious as only the topic creator can change the title and subtitle to make it obvious. Somehow people here think mega-threads must be used for everything, they don't have to be at all. In fact we're trying to encourage new threads and move away from the mega-thread idea we seem to have at the moment.

Something interesting = New thread = Happy Mods, Happy forum.

What were they advertising out of interest?

I'd hazard a guess that they where the 'Where Life Lives' promos, which I've seen on other channels.
