I think the ecp still causes a jump before the transition. The whole BBC credit squeeze slides look horrible and the individual channel bars aren't evenly spaced. Its very noticeable on HD. They are buttery smooth on ITV, surely it can't be that hard to do? The BBC One variant has looked tatty for years.

The credits for Broadchurch where not using the typical black background! Made a lovely change!

The text was still same as usual, but the background was moving footage of the coastline.

Now makes me question even more why more shows don't get personal end credits, especially the soaps! The rebrand would have been a brilliant chance to do this.

Broadchurch had a picture as the background to the credits. Is this the first one since the rebrand?

For the first time since the rebrand that I've seen, new drama Broadchurch used end credits over an image rather than black. It worked well even with the credit shrink, hopefully it will lead the way for more like this. Also nice to see the new & correct itv news (west country) graphics used on TV screens during the drama.

Edit : looks like I wasn't the only one who noticed.

I agree. It was rather a nice change from plain black, but does get me wondering why they don't do this for the main ITV shows. Surely if they can do it for something like 'Broadchurch' then why not for 'Coronation Street' or 'This Morning'? IMO it would be a nice change!

The BRIT awards had non-generic end credits at the bottom of the screen over the final performance, so it looks like there is some flexibility with end credits, which is good, especially with the bottom of screen generic end credits (soaps, etc.) no longer being used.

I still don't understand why they've gone for a quarter screen ECP - would be better IMO to half the height of the white text area and then shrink and crop the credits as we're used too (with the actual credits then 50% larger on screen than currently), leaving a bigger space to play out the promos too.

Not true, according to recent surveys by Equity and Sky.

Quote:
Equity's research into the subject indicated that 89% of viewers got "very annoyed" by squeezed credits.
Quote:
Sky's survey also found that 77% are interested in finding out which actors were in the programme they have watched, with 44% saying they want to know who has directed a show.

Wow I wouldn't of thought it would have been that many. I apologise for my comment for that reason then.

89% of how many asked and 77% of how many asked?

Great to use percentages but what are the percentages relating to (i.e. the actual number interviewed)

Do you not understand survey results?

The figures given are percentages of those asked (or those who responded).

If it's supposed to be a representative sample, then it's taken as an indication of the views of all viewers, usually with an error of margin as a caveat.

Sometimes, where people complain about credit squeezing it's to do with the sudden interruption to the mood of the programme - which often was produced to include the music and tone of the end credit sequence.

From the point of view of the talent concerned, they are denied credit for their work. Either way, credit squeezing is not for the benefit of the viewer.

I believe that programmes should be shown in full, and a programme doesn't finish until the end credits have been completed.
